Symbiodinium diversity associated with zoanthids (Cnidaria: Hexacorallia) in Northeastern Brazil
Symbiosis, 2014Some marine animals have a dynamic mutualistic association involving heterotrophic coral animals (hosts) and autotrophic dinoflagellate endosymbionts in the genus Symbiodinium, known as zooxanthellae, which are directly involved in their physiology. Currently, there is limited knowledge of the Symbiodinium diversity associated with zoanthids from the ...

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2015
Six complete and three partial actiniarian mitochondrial genomes were amplified in two semi-circles using long-range PCR and pyrosequenced in a single run on a 454 GS Junior, doubling the number of complete mitogenomes available within the order. Typical metazoan mtDNA features included circularity, 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and ...

The reproductive biology of Parazoanthus parasiticus (Hexacorallia: Zoanthidea) in Bermuda
Hydrobiologia, 2004The zooxanthellate macrocnemic zoanthid Parazoanthus parasiticus lives at densities of 3–10 cm−2 in the chimney sponge Callyspongia vaginalis in Bermuda. It is gonochoric and oviparous. Small oocytes appear in the mesenteries in February–March, grow slowly at first, then increase volume rapidly as seawater temperature passes 27 °C in July.

Zoanthid (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Hexacorallia: Zoantharia) species of coral reefs in Palau
Marine Biodiversity, 2013Palau is world famous for its relatively pristine and highly diverse coral reefs, yet for many coral reef invertebrate taxa, few data exist on their diversity in this Micronesian country. One such taxon is the Zoantharia, an order of benthic cnidarians within the Class Anthozoa (Subclass Hexacorallia) that are commonly found in shallow subtropical and ...

Zoanthid diversity (Anthozoa: Hexacorallia) in the Galapagos Islands: a molecular examination
Coral Reefs, 2008Although the Galapagos are famous for their unique biodiversity, many groups of marine invertebrates from this isolated archipelago remain understudied or not investigated. One such group is the zoanthids (Order Zoantharia, =Zoanthidea, =Zoanthiniaria), anthozoans (Cnidaria) found in marine ecosystems worldwide. Zoanthid taxonomy has been in a state of
