Visibility of hexagonal boron nitride on transparent substrates

Nanotechnology, 2020
Abstract The high transmittance and low reflectance of monolayer hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) lead to its invisibility under white-light, causing serious troubles in the search, transfer, and fabrication of 2D material devices. In this work, we demonstrate enhancing the contrast of hBN on a transparent substrate by simulation and ...

Nitriding of iron boride to hexagonal boron nitride

Journal of Materials Science, 2000
A process for preparing hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) from iron boride (FeB) has been described for the first time. FeB powder was nitrided in ammonia at 700 K for 24 hours yielding non-crystalline BN and ζ-Fe2N. Subsequent annealing in ammonia for 1 hour at 1273 K resulted in a mixture of crystalline h-BN together with α-Fe, e-Fe3N and γ′-Fe4N.

Growth Mechanism and Morphology of Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Nano Letters, 2016
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) sheet is a structural analogue of graphene, yet its growth mechanism has been rarely studied, as complicated by its binary composition. Here, we reveal an atomistic growth mechanism for the h-BN islands by combining crystal growth theory with comprehensive first-principles calculations. The island shapes preferred by edge

Hexagonal Boron Nitride Nanophotonics

2019 Compound Semiconductor Week (CSW), 2019
Hexagonal Boron Nitride (hBN) mono and multilayers are promising hosts for room temperature single photon emitters (SPEs) with excellent optical properties. In this work, we use high energy (~MeV) electron irradiation as a means to generate stable SPEs in hBN.

Preparation of Nanostructured Hexagonal Boron Nitride Powder

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2003
In this communication, we describe an inexpensive and feasible method for the preparation of hexagonal boron nitride (h–BN) nanorods in the absence of metal catalyst. Tertiary calcium phosphate (Ca 3 (PO 4 ) 2 ...

Intrinsic ferromagnetism in hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2014
Understanding the mechanism of ferromagnetism in hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets, which possess only s and p electrons in comparison with normal ferromagnets based on localized d or f electrons, is a current challenge. In this work, we report an experimental finding that the ferromagnetic coupling is an intrinsic property of hexagonal boron nitride ...

Photoluminescence Upconversion by Defects in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

Nano Letters, 2018
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was recently reported to display single photon emission from ultraviolet to near-infrared range due to the existence of defects. Single photon emission has potential applications in quantum information processing and optoelectronics.

Boron-nitride nanotube triggered self-assembly of hexagonal boron-nitride nanostructure

Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2014
Molecular mechanics results show that a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) membrane can spontaneously assemble on the single-walled boron nitride nanotube (BNNT) in a scroll or helical manner, showing an interesting dependence on h-BN width.

Friction Dissymmetry on Hexagonal Boron Carbon Nitride

Nano Letters
The classical friction law posits that macroscopic friction is directly proportional to the normal force, represented by a constant friction coefficient. However, frictional behavior becomes increasingly complex at the nanoscale. We reveal a counterintuitive instance of dissymmetric friction during the sliding of a graphene flake on a hexagonal boron ...
