THE COMPARISON OF DRAINAGE NETWORK EXTRACTION BETWEEN SQUARE AND HEXAGONAL GRID-BASED DEM [PDF]
The automatic extraction of valleys or ridges from DEM is a long term topic in the GIS and hydrology fields and a number of algorithms have been developed.

Research and Construction of a Global Hexagonal Marine Gravity Gradient Reference Map for Navigation
A high-precision marine gravity gradient reference map is key to enabling underwater gravity gradient matching navigation. At present, the construction of the reference maps is based on quadrilateral geographic grids. However, quadrilateral grids lead to

Extraction of ocean tidal information based on global equal-area grid and satellite altimeter data
Harmonic analysis of satellite altimetry data based on a global regular grid is affected by the grid spatial tessellation and placement of the grids.

Hexagonal Convolutional Neural Networks for Hexagonal Grids [PDF]
Hexagonal grids use a hierarchical subdivision tessellation to cover the entire plane or sphere. Due to the 6-fold rotational symmetry, hexagonal grids have some advantages (e.g. isoperimetry, equidistant neighbors, and uniform connectivity) over quadrangular and triangular girds, which makes them suitable to tackle tasks of geospatial information ...

Halftoning over a hexagonal grid [PDF]
In this contribution, we present an optimal halftoning algorithm that uniformly distributes pixels over a hexagonal grid. This method is based on a slightly modified error-diffusion approach presented at SIGGRAPH 2001. Our algorithm's parameters are optimized using a simplex downhill search method together with a blue noise based cost function .

Modularization of grid cells constrained by the pyramidal patch lattice
Summary: Grid cells provide a metric representation of self-location. They are organized into modules, showing discretized scales of grid spacing, but the underlying mechanism remains elusive. In this modeling study, we propose that the hexagonal lattice

INDUCED \(nK_{2}\) DECOMPOSITION OF INFINITE SQUARE GRIDS AND INFINITE HEXAGONAL GRIDS
The induced \(nK_2\) decomposition of infinite square grids and hexagonal grids are described here. We use the multi-level distance edge labeling as an effective technique in the decomposition of square grids.

A web of confocal parabolas in a grid of hexagons
If one erects regular hexagons upon the sides of a triangle $T$, several surprising properties emerge, including: (i) the triangles which flank said hexagons have an isodynamic point common with $T$, (ii) the construction can be extended iteratively, forming an infinite grid of regular hexagons and flank triangles, (iii) a web of confocal parabolas ...

Optimal Population Codes for Space: Grid Cells Outperform Place Cells [PDF]
Rodents use two distinct neuronal coordinate systems to estimate their position: place fields in the hippocampus and grid fields in the entorhinal cortex.
