Modular Design of Hexagonal Phased Arrays Through Diamond Tiles [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2020
The modular design of planar phased array antennas with hexagonal apertures is addressed by means of innovative diamond-shaped tiling techniques. Both tiling configuration and subarray coefficients are optimized to fit user-defined power-mask constraints on the radiation pattern.

On‐Surface Indigo‐Based Bimolecular Coordination Networks with Programmable Regular or Vitreous Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A previously unreported coordination motif stabilising single Fe atoms by indigo chelation and pyridyl coordination on Au(111) has been revealed. By using planar tritopic pyridyl linkers (TPyB), extended 2D porous networks of indigo3(TPyB)2Fe6 form. These networks can be crystalline or vitreous and offer an environment where individual coordination ...

Emergent hexagonal tiling order in a glassy lattice model

open access: yesOpen Physics
A lattice gas model with short-range interactions is considered in this paper. Through Monte Carlo simulations, it was found that the system shows glassy relaxation behaviors.

Constructing practical Fuzzy Extractors using QIM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Fuzzy extractors are a powerful tool to extract randomness from noisy data. A fuzzy extractor can extract randomness only if the source data is discrete while in practice source data is continuous.

Structure and dynamics of topological defects in a glassy liquid on a negatively curved manifold [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We study the low-temperature regime of an atomic liquid on the hyperbolic plane by means of molecular dynamics simulation and we compare the results to a continuum theory of defects in a negatively curved hexagonal background.

Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Creating 3D texture tessellation on planar surface using a single tile or a few tiles

open access: yesFrontiers of Architectural Research
Tessellations have been widely used in architectural designs to create visually striking surfaces by repeating a small number of elements. While there has been extensive research on 2D tiling over the past 2000 years, this study focuses on the systematic

Quivers, Tilings, Branes and Rhombi

open access: yes, 2005
We describe a simple algorithm that computes the recently discovered brane tilings for a given generic toric singular Calabi-Yau threefold. This therefore gives AdS/CFT dual quiver gauge theories for D3-branes probing the given non-compact manifold.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Flip dynamics in octagonal rhombus tiling sets

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the properties of classical single flip dynamics in sets of two-dimensional random rhombus tilings. Single flips are local moves involving 3 tiles which sample the tiling sets {\em via} Monte Carlo Markov chains.
