Enumeration of Lozenge Tilings of Punctured Hexagons
The author finds the number of tilings by unit rhombi of a hexagon with sides \(a\), \(b+1\), \(b\), \(a+1\), \(b\), \(b+1\), all angles \(120^\circ\), and with the central unit triangle removed, reducing it to a product of numbers of self-complementary plane partitions [see \textit{R. P. Stanley}, J. Comb. Theory, Ser.

Quantifying Spin Defect Density in hBN via Raman and Photoluminescence Analysis
An all‐optical method is presented for quantifying the density of boron vacancy spin defects in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). By correlating Raman and photoluminescence signals with irradiation fluence, defect‐induced Raman modes are identified and established an relationship linking optical signatures to absolute defect densities. This enables direct

Triangular and Hexagonal Tile Self-assembly Systems [PDF]
We discuss theoretical aspects of the self-assembly of triangular tiles, in particular, right triangular tiles and equilateral triangular tiles, and the self-assembly of hexagonal tiles. We show that triangular tile assembly systems and square tile assembly systems cannot be simulated by each other in a non-trivial way.

Crystallographic features of the approximant H (Mn$_7$Si$_2$V) phase in the Mn-Si-V alloy system
The intermetallic compound H (Mn$_7$Si$_2$V) phase in the Mn-Si-V alloy system can be regarded as an approximant phase of the dodecagonal quasicrystal as one of the two-dimensional quasicrystals.

Gaussian Process Inference Reveals Non‐Separability of Position and Velocity Tuning in Grid Cells
ABSTRACT Grid cells in medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) support spatial navigation by responding to multiple variables, including position, speed, and head direction. While tuning curves for each of these variables have been examined individually at the level of single cells, less is known about the conjunctive coding of grid cells for these properties ...

The topological structure of 2D disordered cellular systems
We analyze the structure of two dimensional disordered cellular systems generated by extensive computer simulations. These cellular structures are studied as topological trees rooted on a central cell or as closed shells arranged concentrically around a ...

Lozenge Tilings of a Hexagon with a Horizontal Intrusion
Motivated by a conjecture posed by Fulmek and Krattenthaler, we provide product formulas for the number of lozenge tilings of a semiregular hexagon containing a horizontal intrusion. As a direct corollary, we obtain a product formula for the number of boxed plane partitions with a certain restriction.
