The Po Plain (Northern Italy) is one of the most urbanized areas in Europe. In such a territory, where ecosystem degradation reached critical levels and the agricultural matrix is prevailingly intensive, small fragments of hilly oak-hornbeam forests ...

The evolution of Strepsiptera (Hexapoda)
Zoology, 2008An evolutionary scenario for the enigmatic group Strepsiptera is provided, based on the results of a comprehensive cladistic analysis of characters of all life stages. A recently described fossil--+Protoxenos janzeni--the most archaic strepsipteran, sheds new light on the early evolution of the group and reduces the "morphological gap" between ...

Circulatory organs of Diplura (Hexapoda): the basic design in Hexapoda?
International Journal of Insect Morphology and Embryology, 1999Abstract The circulatory systems of Campodea augens and Catajapyx aquilonaris (Hexapoda: Diplura) have been examined by means of light and electron microscopy. Hemolymph flow has also been investigated in vivo. Both species share features that deviate conspicuously from the common textbook design of the insect circulatory system: (i) antennal vessels

Catalogue of Vietnamese springtails (Hexapoda, Collembola)
Zootaxa, 2022Based on what we believe is a complete survey of the previous literature, the citations of the collembola found in Vietnam are recorded. In total, the catalogue includes 350 species in 118 genera from 21families (69 dubious records). For each species the current name is indicated, as well as the basionym and main synonyms with the complete ...

Evolution of CP2 transcription factors in Hexapoda
Journal of Genetics, 2021The CP2 transcription factors are highly conserved in metazoans, where they are divided into two groups: grainyhead and late SV40 factor (LSF). We traced their evolutionary history in the Hexapoda using over 500 insect transcriptomes, to test the hypothesis that the evolution of holometaboly involved novel isoforms of these genes. All insects appear to

The evolution of the Hexapoda mitochondrial genome has been the focus of several genetic and evolutionary studies over the last decades. However, they have concentrated on certain taxonomic orders of economic or health importance. The recent increase of mitochondrial genomes sequencing of diverse taxonomic orders generates an important opportunity to ...

The ultrastructure of the spermathecae in the Collembola Symphypleona (Hexapoda)
Journal of Morphology, 2008AbstractThe fine structure of the paired spermathecae of two Symphypleona Collembola, Sminthurus viridis and Allacma fusca, was studied. The spermathecal epithelium is rich in pigment granules, while secretory organelles are scarce, consisting of a few mitochondria and microtubules, scattered cisterns of endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi systems.
