Lu-Hf Isotopic Compositions of SNC Meteorites: Implications for Martian Mantle Evolution

Mineralogical Magazine, 1998
In contrast to the Earth, garnet is not stable in the lunar mantle and should not appear in the Martian mantle at shallow depth either. Clinopyroxene, however, is expected to be present in different proportions in the mantles of all three planets. The potential of Hf isotope geochemistry lies with a large parent-daughter Lu-Hf fractionation for garnet ...

Geochronology, geochemistry, Hf isotopic compositions and formation mechanism of radial mafic dikes in northern Tibet

International Geology Review, 2013
A large mafic dike swarm is radially distributed in southern Qiangtang. Three typical samples were selected for geochronology, geochemistry, and Hf isotopic analysis. Zircon U–Pb dating indicates that the three dikes formed at 291 ± 2, 292 ± 3, and 300 ± 2 Ma.

Hf isotopic composition and age constraints on the evolution of the Archean central Uchi Subprovince, Ontario, Canada

Precambrian Research, 1996
The Archean Uchi Subprovince, located in the northwestern Superior Province, comprises greenstone belts and granitoid complexes that formed in the course of a multistage history between about 3000 and 2690 Ma. The earliest volcanic-plutonic complexes were assembled into a microcontinent, which then progressively grew by the addition of magmatic arcs ...

The Hf isotope composition of cratonic mantle: LAM-MC-ICPMS analysis of zircon megacrysts in kimberlites

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2000
Zircon megacrysts represent a late stage in the crystallisation of the magmas that produced the low-Cr megacryst suite (Ol1Opx1Cpx1Gnt1Ilm1Phl1Zir) found in many kimberlites, and may carry information on the sources of the parent magmas and the interaction of these magmas with the cratonic lithosphere.

Tracing the origin of Southwest Japan using the Hf isotopic composition of detrital zircons from the Akiyoshi Belt

Terra Nova, 2018
AbstractThe Permian Akiyoshi Belt, which is the oldest unmetamorphosed accretionary complex in Southwest Japan, plays an important role in understanding the origin of the Japanese Islands; however, its tectonic affinity is still not well constrained.

Zircon U–Pb geochronology and Hf isotopic compositions of the Mesozoic granites in southern Anhui Province, China

Lithos, 2012
Abstract Mesozoic magmatism is extensively developed in eastern China along the eastern Asian continental margin, but the geochronological framework is not well understood for each area. In this study, seventy-eight samples were collected from the Mesozoic igneous rocks in south Anhui Province, east-central China, in order to precisely constrain ...

The oldest basement rock in the Yangtze Craton revealed by zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotope composition

Science in China Series D: Earth Sciences, 2009
Here we report an integrated study of zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotope composition for a gneiss sample from the Kongling terrain in the Yangtze Craton. CL imaging reveals that most zircons are magmatic, and a few of them have thin metamorphic rims. The magmatic zircons gave a weighted mean U-Pb age of 3218±13 Ma, indicating the gneiss is the oldest ...

U–Pb ages and Hf isotope composition of zircons in a metasomatic xenolith (Hyblean Plateau, SE Sicily)

2005
Morphological and trace element studies of a hundred and twenty-one zircon grains separated from a chlorite–alkali feldspar xenolith of metasomatic origin collected from Valle Guffari (Hyblean Plateau, south-eastern Sicily, Italy) indicated the coexistence of igneous and hydrothermal zircons within the same sample.
