High-frequency oscillations (HFOs) in clinical epilepsy [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Neurobiology, 2012
Epilepsy is one of the most frequent neurological diseases. In focal medically refractory epilepsies, successful surgical treatment largely depends on the identification of epileptogenic zone. High-frequency oscillations (HFOs) between 80 and 500Hz, which can be recorded with EEG, may be novel markers of the epileptogenic zone.

Eco-friendly gas mixtures for Resistive Plate Chambers based on Tetrafluoropropene and Helium

open access: yes, 2016
Due to the recent restrictions deriving from the application of the Kyoto protocol, the main components of the gas mixtures presently used in the Resistive Plate Chambers systems of the LHC experiments will be most probably phased out of production in ...

Second-order magnetic critical points at finite magnetic fields: Revisiting Arrott plots [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The so-called Arrott plot, which consists in plotting H/M against M2, with H the applied magnetic field and M the magnetization, is used to extract valuable information in second-order magnetic phase transitions.

Understanding and Tuning Mobile Interfaces in Ferroelectric Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 Thin Films in Relation to Microstructure

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectricity in thin HfO2‐based films offers great possibilities for next‐generation neuromorphic memory devices. There, the response to subcoercive voltage signals is driven by the movement of mobile interfaces and their interaction with crystal defects – a yet rather unexplored aspect, which we shed light on and gain new insights into the complex

Capacitance Electrochemical pH Sensor Based on Different Hafnium Dioxide (HfO2) Thicknesses

open access: yesChemosensors, 2021
Over the past years, to achieve better sensing performance, hafnium dioxide (HfO2) has been studied as an ion-sensitive layer. In this work, thin layers of hafnium dioxide (HfO2) were used as pH-sensitive membranes and were deposited by atomic layer ...

The intrinsic value of HFO features as a biomarker of epileptic activity

open access: yes, 2015
High frequency oscillations (HFOs) are a promising biomarker of epileptic brain tissue and activity. HFOs additionally serve as a prototypical example of challenges in the analysis of discrete events in high-temporal resolution, intracranial EEG data ...

Multibit Ferroelectric HfZrO Memcapacitor for Non‐Volatile Analogue Memory and Reconfigurable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric memcapacitors enable non‐volatile, voltage‐programmable capacitance tuning for adaptive electronics. A TiN/HfZrO/TiN device stack demonstrates more than eight stable capacitance states within a 24 pF memory window in compact 60 ×$\times$ 60 μm2$\umu{\rm m}^{2}$ devices at low operating voltages.

Mechanisms of physiological and epileptic HFO generation [PDF]

open access: yesProgress in Neurobiology, 2012
High frequency oscillations (HFO) have a variety of characteristics: band-limited or broad-band, transient burst-like phenomenon or steady-state. HFOs may be encountered under physiological or under pathological conditions (pHFO). Here we review the underlying mechanisms of oscillations, at the level of cells and networks, investigated in a variety of ...

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...
