High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) in Pediatrics
Conventional ventilation is not without its own set of hazards for the lungs. The concept of ventilator induced lung injury (VILI) was defined in the 1960s and modes of ventilation which were likely to be less injurious to the lung were explored. HFOV is one such modality.

Volume recruitment and oxygenation in pulmonary edema: a comparison between HFOV and CMV.
Journal of Critical Care, 1998In acute lung injury, edema floods alveoli decreasing mean lung volume (MLV) and increasing pulmonary venous admixture (Ova/Qt). We reasoned that a ventilatory strategy that uses large tidal volumes (VT) might recruit volume differently than a strategy that uses very small VT (high-frequency oscillatory ventilation, HFOV) which may require an inflation

Experimental investigation of oscillatory air flow in a bronchial tube model with HFOV mode
Journal of Visualization, 2006Mechanical ventilations for artificial respiration have been developed to improve the medical treatment of the patients showing respiratory disorder. In various types of ventilation, High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) is one of the most effective techniques of medical care for pulmonary disease patients, especially, infants or premature ...

High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV)

To investigate the effects of high frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) and HFOV combined with pulmonary surfactant (PS) treatment on lung tissue after steam inhalation injury in rabbits.Twenty-four New Zealand rabbits were randomly and equally divided into three groups after reproduction of severe steam inhalation injury, each n=8.
