Obesity-Related Biomarkers Are Associated With Exercise Intolerance and HFpEF
Circulation: Heart Failure, 2023BACKGROUND: Obesity and adiposity are associated with an increased risk of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF); yet, specific underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2020
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) disproportionately affects women. Though no unifying theory exists to explain this phenomenon, the purpose of this review is to explore the many factors that likely contribute to this female predominance.

Blunted Cardiac Mitophagy in Response to Metabolic Stress Contributes to HFpEF
Circulation ResearchBACKGROUND: Metabolic remodeling and mitochondrial dysfunction are hallmarks of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. However, their role in the pathogenesis of HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is poorly understood. METHODS: In a mouse

Inflammation in HFpEF: Key or circumstantial?
International Journal of Cardiology, 2015Heart failure (HF) can be split into HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Currently the pathophysiologic mechanisms involved in HFpEF remain largely unknown. The neurohumoral and sympathetic nervous systems seem not to play a crucial role in HFpEF, as treatments targeting these pathways do not show ...

Invasive Hemodynamic and Metabolic Evaluation of HFpEF
Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a complex and heterogeneous condition of multiple causes, characterized by a clinical syndrome resulting from elevated left ventricular filling pressures, with an apparently unimpaired left ventricular systolic function.

Aldosterone antagonism for HFpEF [PDF]
No therapy has been proven to reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Owing to the deleterious cardiovascular effects of aldosterone, mineralocorticoid antagonists hold promise to treat this disorder. The Aldo-DHF trial provides valuable insights into the effects of these agents in HFpEF.

JACC: Heart Failure
Because of the bidirectional relationship between atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), individuals with either condition require consideration of screening for the other. In this review, we summarize current evidence and rationale for screening for occult HFpEF in adults with clinical AF; and occult AF in
