Adipocyte‐Derived Leptolin Enhances Energy Expenditure and Prevents Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified a novel adipokine, which we named leptolin. In humans, leptolin levels in white adipose tissue were positively correlated with exercise and negatively associated with body mass index. We observed elevated leptolin in serum from athletes and lower leptolin in serum from obese individuals.

Influencing factors of hidden blood loss after primary total hip arthroplasty through the posterior approach: a retrospective study

open access: yes, 2023
Background Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an excellent treatment for the end-stage hip disease, and perioperative blood management strategies have been effectively applied to this procedure.

Neural Fields for Highly Accelerated 2D Cine Phase Contrast MRI

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT 2D cine phase contrast (CPC) MRI provides quantitative information on blood velocity and flow within the human vasculature. However, data acquisition is time‐consuming, motivating the reconstruction of the velocity field from undersampled measurements to reduce scan times. In this work, neural fields are proposed as a continuous spatiotemporal

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Hidden blood loss in direct anterior total hip arthroplasty: a prospective, double blind, randomized controlled trial on topical versus intravenous tranexamic acid.

open access: yes, 2021
BACKGROUND: Despite a plethora of literature reporting on the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA), little is available on its effect on post-operative hidden blood loss and even less on its use in the direct anterior approach ...

Harnessing Phase Separation for the Development of High‐Performance Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogels are indispensable for the development of next‐generation bioelectronics, soft robotics, and biomedical devices, where their mechanical properties determine performance and reliability. Among strategies to enhance hydrogel mechanics, phase separation enables controlled heterogeneity resulting in gel networks that are reinforced by ...

Materials‐Guided Gene‐Ionizable Lipid Nanoparticles to Reverse Iron‐Associated Immune Resistance in Renal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Iron overload is a common metabolic disturbance in cancer and contributes to poor outcomes in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), yet its effects on the tumour immune microenvironment remain unclear. Here we identify a previously unrecognized immunosuppressive axis in which iron overload downregulates the palmitoyltransferase ZDHHC12 in CD8+ T cells ...

Analysis of factors affecting the clinical management of infection in culture-negative patients following percutaneous endoscopic decompression: a retrospective study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
BackgroundCulture-negative spinal infections after prophylactic antibiotic use in percutaneous endoscopic decompression are rare, and diagnostic difficulties and the risk of antibiotic-resistant infections complicate treatment. This study retrospectively
