Assortment Planning in Omnichannel Retailing Under Product Returns and Showcase Capacity
ABSTRACT We investigate the assortment planning decisions of a retailer that operates an online sales channel and a brick‐and‐mortar store. We explicitly investigate the impact of product returns, which is a norm in modern retailing and a factor for lost profit.

Modelling persistence in annual Australia point rainfall [PDF]
Annual rainfall time series for Sydney from 1859 to 1999 is analysed. Clear evidence of nonstationarity is presented, but substantial evidence for persistence or hidden states is more elusive. A test of the hypothesis that a hidden state Markov model

ABSTRACT Objective This study compared the effects of phentermine‐topiramate‐ER (mid‐dose 7.5/46 mg) versus placebo on weight loss and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk outcomes when used as an adjunct to a digitally enhanced lifestyle intervention (DELI).

Hidden Abstract Stack Markov Models with Learning Process
We present hidden abstract stack Markov models (HASMMs) with their learning process. The HASMMs we offer carry the more expressive nature of probabilistic context-free grammars (PCFGs) while allowing faster parameter fitting of hidden Markov models (HMMs)

GraphReco: Probabilistic Structure Recognition for Chemical Molecules
Molecule structure images are unfriendly for machine understanding, blocking productivity improvements in chemical data mining, drug discovery, and many other fields. We present a rule‐based probabilistic Optical Chemical Structure Recognition model to explain and tackle the ambiguity challenges in graph assembly.

Sex matters: European urban birds flee approaching women sooner than approaching men
Abstract Flight initiation distance (FID) is a metric often used to study an individual's perceptions of risk when facing a predatory threat. Longer FID indicates lower risk‐taking, while shorter FID identifies bolder individuals who tolerate greater risk.

ABSTRACT The treatment of migraine is hampered by inter‐individual variability, leading to an inefficient “trial and error” approach. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) offer a path towards precision medicine by predicting therapeutic outcomes.
