Divine hiddenness: An evidential argument

Philosophical Perspectives, 2021
AbstractThis paper presents and examines the argument from divine hiddenness as an evidential argument. It argues that a key thought that motivates the argument, namely, that it's surprising that God's existence is not more obvious, does not alone secure the conclusion that divine hiddenness is evidence against God.

Physics Education, 2016
Despite the relevance of DC circuits in everyday life and schools, they have been shown to cause numerous learning difficulties at various school levels. In the course of this article, we present a flexible method for teaching DC circuits at lower secondary level.

The hiddenness argument revisited (I)

Religious Studies, 2005
More than a few philosophers have sought to answer the atheistic argument from reasonable non-belief (a.k.a. the argument from divine hiddenness or the hiddenness argument) presented in my 1993 book Divine Hiddenness and Human Reason. In this first of two essays in response, I focus on objections sharing the defect – sometimes well-hidden – of ...

Divine Hiddenness and the Suffering Unbeliever Argument

European Journal for Philosophy of Religion, 2020
In this essay, I propose two arguments from Thomas Aquinas’s reflection on theism and faith to rebut Schellenberg’s claim that divine hiddenness justifies atheism. One of those arguments, however, may be employed so as to re-propose Schellenberg’s conviction, which is crucial to his argument, that there are ‘non-resistant’ or ‘inculpable’ unbelievers ...

Hidden Arguments: Political Ideology and Disease Prevention Policy

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1989
Sylvia Noble Tesh, in her book Hidden Arguments: Political Ideology and Disease Prevention Policy , presents an argument that science is not uninfluenced by politics and values, that presumably value-free scientific conceptions of illness and disease have both influenced and been influenced by non—value-free political and ideological conceptions, and ...

Divine hiddenness: part 1 (recent work on the hiddenness argument)

Philosophy Compass, 2017
Abstract Only 6 years have passed since I last published a critical survey article on the divine hiddenness discussion (Schellenberg, ). But more than 60 papers and books dealing with hiddenness themes have been published in that time. Not all can be addressed here. Moreover, to enable a reasonable treatment of those that will make an
