Tree-ring structure determines the temporal coordination between xylem growth and the gain in hydraulic conductivity in the outermost ring. [PDF]
Summary The study of seasonal xylem hydraulics has predominantly focused on embolism‐induced losses, whereas growth‐driven increases in hydraulic capacity have received little attention. We assessed the intra‐annual dynamics of xylem formation and gain of conductivity in the current‐year ring of three species with contrasting tree‐ring structure ...

Mechanistic Insight into H2S-Induced Fluorescence Quenching in a Robust Metal-Organic Framework. [PDF]
An ultramicroporous Zn‐based metal‐organic framework, MFM‐520, enables reversible hydrogen sulfide adsorption and selective fluorescence sensing. Confinement of H2S within the pores perturbs ligand‐centered excited states through weak host‐guest interactions, enhancing non‐radiative decay pathways.

Wood Decomposition in European Rivers Increases With Temperature but Decreases With Human Population Density. [PDF]
We investigated wood decomposition in rivers across seven catchments and 72 river locations in Europe and found that temperature was the main driver of decomposition rate, with a predicted 4.3% increase per 1°C rise in mean annual temperature. However, climate‐change induced increases in mean annual precipitation and an increased human population ...

Drying Halves Decomposition Rates in River Networks by Decreasing Decomposer Diversity. [PDF]
Short drying events can have long‐lasting impacts on the functioning of whole river networks. We found that just a few days without water reduced leaf decomposition by up to half, because drying reduced the diversity of communities of organisms that recycle organic matter. These effects continued for months after flow returned. Hydrological connections
