Episodes of Early Pleistocene West Antarctic Ice Sheet Retreat Recorded by Iceberg Alley Sediments. [PDF]

open access: yesPaleoceanogr Paleoclimatol, 2022
Abstract Ice loss in the Southern Hemisphere has been greatest over the past 30 years in West Antarctica. The high sensitivity of this region to climate change has motivated geologists to examine marine sedimentary records for evidence of past episodes of West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) instability.

Permeability of artificial barriers (fences) for wild boar (Sus scrofa) in Mediterranean mixed landscapes. [PDF]

open access: yesPest Manag Sci, 2022
The use of well‐maintained big game proof‐type fences with an increase in its maintenance around water courses and during food shortage period could be effective in reduce wild boar conflicts. Abstract BACKGROUND Fences are one of the most widespread manmade features in nature, constituting an artificial limitation to the movement of wildlife. To date,

The salinity signature of the cross-shelf exchanges in the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean: Satellite observations. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Geophys Res Oceans, 2014
Abstract Satellite‐derived sea surface salinity (SSS) data from Aquarius and SMOS are used to study the shelf‐open ocean exchanges in the western South Atlantic near 35°S. Away from the tropics, these exchanges cause the largest SSS variability throughout the South Atlantic.

Spatiotemporal distribution and population structure of Monokalliapseudes schubarti (Tanaidacea: Kalliapseudidae) in an estuary in Southern Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yesScientificWorldJournal, 2013
Monokalliapseudes schubarti is an endemic tanaidacean microcrustacean from southeastern Brazil to Uruguay inhabiting low energy estuaries. Saco da Fazenda is located in the estuary of the Itajaí‐Açú River, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. It is exposed to strong anthropic impact and receives intensive flows of domestic wastewater, solid residues, and ...

Altimeter-derived seasonal circulation on the southwest Atlantic shelf: 27°-43°S. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Geophys Res Oceans, 2015
Abstract Altimeter sea surface height (SSH) fields are analyzed to define and discuss the seasonal circulation over the wide continental shelf in the SW Atlantic Ocean (27°–43°S) during 2001–2012. Seasonal variability is low south of the Rio de la Plata (RdlP), where winds and currents remain equatorward for most of the year.

Environment and shipping drive environmental DNA beta‐diversity among commercial ports

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 32, Issue 23, Page 6696-6709, December 2023., 2023
Abstract The spread of nonindigenous species by shipping is a large and growing global problem that harms coastal ecosystems and economies and may blur coastal biogeographical patterns. This study coupled eukaryotic environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding with dissimilarity regression to test the hypothesis that ship‐borne species spread homogenizes ...

Bottom‐Current Variability and the Relationship With Topography and Sedimentary Processes in the Drake Passage

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 128, Issue 8, August 2023., 2023
Abstract Bottom‐current related sediments have been commonly used for paleoceanographic reconstructions. However, the strength and variability of bottom currents are poorly understood and thus the processes that control sedimentation in deep environments are not clear.

Tagging, ranging patterns, and behavior of franciscana dolphins (Pontoporia blainvillei) off Argentina and Brazil: Considerations for conservation

open access: yesMarine Mammal Science, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 571-605, April 2022., 2022
Abstract The franciscana dolphin, Pontoporia blainvillei, is one of the most threatened cetaceans in the Southwestern Atlantic. Within their limited coastal range off Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil, franciscanas face human activities, including artisanal gillnet fishing and coastal development.
