Wastage in a Hierarchical Manpower System

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1979
A Markov chain model for the description, testing and comparison of wastage in hierarchical manpower systems is given in this paper. With regard to manpower planning, emphasis is placed on unnatural wastage (resignations, dismissals and transfers) in comparing systems. All forces of transition are state and service length specific.

Constructing Hierarchical Set Systems

Annals of Combinatorics, 2005
This paper introduces a new algorithm to achieve data clusters. The procedure works with dissimilarity data. It starts with the so-called Apresjan hierarchy and while the needed calculations are easy and fast, the resulting nested clusters give a very good understanding of the data.

On prefetching in hierarchical caching systems

IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2003. ICC '03., 2004
Hierarchical caching is deployed to scale up the explosive Web growth, and the expiration-based mechanism is adopted as an economic means to support the weak consistency in this context. However, given a hierarchy, the user perceived performance heavily depends on its position.

Dynamics in Hierarchical CSCW Systems

2003
Computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) is a popular research topic in recent years. In classical cooperative applications, cooperation cannot be adapted to the dynamics and hierarchies of real world. According to the formal specification of dynamic cooperation in hierarchical systems, a dynamic hierarchical cooperative system model, DHCSCW, is ...

Mode Condensation in a Hierarchical System

Physical Review Letters, 1986
A spherical model of Ising spins, placed on sites that are arranged in a cluster hierarchy, is studied. For the ferromagnetic transition, the critical exponents are found to have nonuniversal values in a certain range of system parameters, while they assume classical values in another range. Correlation functions show a behavior which is very different

Modeling Visibility in Hierarchical Systems

2006
We consider hierarchical systems where nodes represent entities and edges represent binary relationships among them. An example is a hierarchical composition of Web services where the nodes denote services and edges represent the parent-child relationship of a service invoking another service.

Combining and Distributing Hierarchical Systems

1998
It is possible with RAISE to specify and do most refinement in an applicative framework, and then transform the concrete applicative specification into an imperative sequential or concurrent one. This is a change from a style more appropriate to proof of refinement to a style more appropriate to implementation.

Differentiations in Hierarchical Fuzzy Systems

2018
Hierarchical fuzzy systems are one of the most popular solutions for the curse of dimensionality problem occurred in complex fuzzy rule based systems with a large number of input parameters. Nevertheless these systems have a hidden inaccuracy and instability problem.

A Hierarchical System of Learning Automata

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 1981
A learning automaton operating in a random environment updates its action probabilities on the basis of the reactions of the environment, so that asymptotically it chooses the optimal action. When the number of actions is large the automaton becomes slow because there are too many updatings to be made at each instant.
