The addition of contrast agent microbubbles during HIFU can increase the temperature dramatically compared to conventional HIFU. Higher microbubble concentrations enhance this phenomenon but they also cause acoustic shadowing along the path of the HIFU beam and thus local injections are preferred over systemic delivery.

MR guidance of high intensity focused ultrasound is evolving with each new application. In this paper we describe ongoing research in the MR-guidance aspect of MR-guided focused ultrasound. The structure is divided into the pretreatment/setup phase of the procedure, MR thermometry for monitoring the actual treatment, and methods for assessment and ...

Characterization of HIFU fields inside of a tissue-mimicking HIFU phantom
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019The use of a tissue-mimicking, scatterer-free polyacrylamide gel phantom for HIFU has been previously described [1]. This transparent material combines with a marker with an absorption of 0.6 dB/cm MHz which turns opaque when the temperature exceeds 65 °C.

Complications of HIFU Ablation
2021Any surgical procedure has potential complications. Abdominal and laparoscopic surgery may have heavy bleeding at operation, infection, poor wound healing, pelvic adhesion, ureter or bladder injury, bowel injury, and many others. HIFU ablation involves no wound, no bleeding, and is a type of noninvasive treatment.

The field of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is developing rapidly. For basic research, quality control, and regulatory assessment a reusable phantom that has both thermal and acoustic properties close to that of soft tissue is critical. A hydrogel‐based tissue mimicking material (TMM) has been developed that shows promise for such a phantom ...

Adenomyosis is due to the invasion or presence of endometrial glands in the uterine myometrium accompanied by hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the surrounding muscle cells, forming diffuse or focal lesions. Adenomyosis occurs most often in women between the ages of 30 and 50, but it can also be in younger women who have not had children. The incidence of

Noninvasive thermometer for HIFU and its scaling
Ultrasonics, 2006Acoustic-inversion method for a noninvasive temperature measurement in tissue is presented. A set of B-scan operating in M-mode was used as a signal-equipment. The echoes reflected from an assigned surface in tissue were acquired before and after heating, and the corresponding spectra were then obtained by FFT.

HIFU with Oral Collagen Vs HIFU Alone in Vaginal Rejuvenation
JOJ Dermatology & CosmeticsIntroduction: Many treatment options were tried to reach satisfactory results for patients with loose vagina in order to improve their sexual life and urinary symptoms. Methods: 54 patients with loose vagina and impaired sexual function participated in this study. Ultrasound gel was applied to a HIFU cartridge before inserting into the patient’s vagina
