HIFU ultrasound power measurements at INRiM

open access: yesMetrologia, 2011
In this work the new system for the ultrasound power measurement of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound transducers realized at INRIM ultrasounds laboratory is presented. The system is based on a submersible load cell that takes the place of the balance. This solution presents essentially two advantages.

The efficacy of ultrasonic ablation combined with medication in the treatment of adenomyosis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
BackgroundAdenomyosis occurs when tissue from the inner lining of the endometrium grows into the muscle wall of the myometrium. Previous studies have suggested that High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) combined with medications may improve treatment ...

Histological characterization of HIFU lesions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia
Background: High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) can destroy tissue by thermal ablation which may be accompanied by acoustic cavitation and/or tissue water boiling, but the biological and histological effects of these treatments have not been fully documented. Here, detailed histological analysis over time using well characterized HIFU exposures in

Changes in symptoms and fibroid characteristics in women treated with ultrasound‐guided high intensity focused ultrasound (USgHIFU) at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, Volume 173, Issue 3, Page 1408-1412, June 2026.
Abstract Objective The main objective was to describe women with fibroids who were treated with ultrasound‐guided high intensity focused ultrasound (USgHIFU) at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH) and to evaluate the outcomes at least 6 months after treatment.

Lead-Free HIFU Transducers

open access: yesUltrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2022
High-intensity focused ultrasound transducers operating at 4 MHz based on lead-free piezoceramics from the sodium bismuth titanate (NBT) family are described. First, the piezoelectric material (Pz12X) is evaluated from the standpoint of transducer design and its important characteristics, including temperature dependance of several parameters such as ...

High-intensity focused ultrasound in the management of adenomyosis: long-term results from a single center

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2021
Objective To investigate the long-term clinical outcomes of patients with adenomyosis treated by high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). Materials and methods From June 2012 to January 2020, 2311 patients with adenomyosis were treated with HIFU at our ...

T-lymphocytes from focused ultrasound ablation subsequently mediate cellular antitumor immunity after adoptive cell transfer immunotherapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
BackgroundOur previous studies found that high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) stimulated tumor-specific T cells in a mouse H22 tumor model, and adoptive transfer of the T cells from HIFU-treated mice could subsequently elicit stronger inhibition on ...
