Review of Robot-Assisted HIFU Therapy

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This paper provides an overview of current robot-assisted high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) systems for image-guided therapies. HIFU is a minimally invasive technique that relies on the thermo-mechanical effects of focused ultrasound waves to ...

The efficacy of ultrasonic ablation combined with medication in the treatment of adenomyosis: a systematic review and network meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
BackgroundAdenomyosis occurs when tissue from the inner lining of the endometrium grows into the muscle wall of the myometrium. Previous studies have suggested that High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) combined with medications may improve treatment ...

HIFU ultrasound power measurements at INRiM

open access: yesMetrologia, 2011
In this work the new system for the ultrasound power measurement of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound transducers realized at INRIM ultrasounds laboratory is presented. The system is based on a submersible load cell that takes the place of the balance. This solution presents essentially two advantages.

Magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) therapy of uterine fibroids effectively reduces both bleeding and bulk symptoms-A prospective single-center 12-month follow-up study. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Obstet Gynecol Scand
Magnetic resonance‐guided high‐intensity focused ultrasound (MR‐HIFU) resulted in significant symptom reduction and improved quality of life in patients with symptomatic uterine fibroids and either bleeding or bulk symptoms. When successful, MR‐HIFU provides effective and rapid symptom relief for both symptom types.

Comparison of the treatment efficacies of HIFU, HIFU combined with GnRH-a, and HIFU combined with GnRH-a and LNG-IUS for adenomyosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesTaiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2023
To compare the treatment efficacies of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), HIFU combined with gonadotrophin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a), and HIFU combined with GnRH-a and levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) for adenomyosis.

The Asian perspective on HIFU [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2021
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) uses about 800 times the diagnostic ultrasound power, which converges at a focal point to deliver energy above 60 degrees Celsius resulting in cell death by means of coagulation necrosis and cavitation destruction.
