Effect of higenamine on action potential of ventricular myocardial cells

Journal of Electrocardiology, 1985
Action potentials of isolated ventricular myocardial fibers of pigs and the electrophysiological actions of dl-demethylcoclaurine (DMC) or higenamine on the porcine myocardial cells were studied by glass microelectrodes. The action potentials of porcine ventricular myocardial fibers were similar to those of other mammalian hearts.

Endothelium-Dependent Higenamine-Induced Aortic Relaxation in Isolated Rat Aorta

Planta Medica, 1997
The pharmacological action of higenamine in isolated rat aorta was investigated. Although the beta-adrenoceptor antagonist propranolol (1 x 10(-5) M) completely blocked the beta-adrenoceptor agonist higenamine in inducing a positive chronotropic activity in isolated mouse atria, the higenamine-induced aortic relaxation was not completely antagonized by

Synthesis of higenamine, A cardiotonic principle of aconite root

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 1984
Higenamine (I), a cardiotonic principle of Aconite root, was synthesized from 4-methoxy-phenylacetic acid (II) and β-(3, 4-dimethoxyphenyl)-ethylamine (IV). Condensation ofIV with 4-methoxyphenylacetyl chloride (III) was followed by cyclodehydration yielding 1-(4′-methoxybenzyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (VI).

Inhibitory Effects of Higenamine on Dopamine Content in PC12 Cells

Planta Medica, 1999
The inhibitory effects of (+/-)-higenamine, a benzylisoquinoline alkaloid, on dopamine biosynthesis in PC12 cells were investigated. Higenamine decreased the intracellular dopamine content dose-dependently and showed 55.2% inhibition of dopamine content in PC12 cells at a concentration of 20 microM with 24 h incubation. The IC50 value of higenamine was

Higenamine protects neuronal cells from oxygen‐glucose deprivation/reoxygenation‐induced injury

Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2018
AbstractHigenamine, a plant‐based alkaloid, exhibits various properties, such as antiapoptotic and antioxidative effects. Previous studies proved that higenamine possesses potential therapeutic effects for ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injuries. However, the role of higenamine in cerebral I/R injury has not been fully evaluated.

Identification of higenamine as a novel α1‐adrenergic receptor antagonist

Phytotherapy Research, 2019
The α1‐adrenoceptor (α1‐AR) antagonists are potential candidates for the treatment of blood pressure. Higenamine (HG) is a novel α1‐AR antagonist. In this study, we investigated the effects of HG in HEK293A cells transfected with α1A‐, α1B‐, and α1D‐AR in vitro, rat mesenteric artery ex vivo, Wistar–Kyoto rats and spontaneously hypertensive rats in ...

Determination of blood concentration of higenamine by high pressure liquid chromatography

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 1987
A procedure utilizing high pressure liquid chromatography coupled with UV detection is described for the determination of blood concentration of higenamine. Deproteinized serum was pretreated with C18 (Sep-pak C18 cartridge) and the 70% EtOH eluent was applied onto a reversed-phase column (μ Bondapak C18) with a 15% acetonitrile in 0.05 N NaH2 PO4 ...

Antithrombotic Effects of YS-49 and YS-51—1-Naphthylmethyl Analogs of Higenamine

Thrombosis Research, 2001
The antiplatelet and antithrombotic effects of YS-49 and YS-51--l-naphthylmethyl analogs of higenamine, which is a benzyl-tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloid isolated from Aconitum japonicum (Ranunculaceae)--were investigated. YS-49 and YS-51 showed inhibitory activities to both human and rat platelet aggregation induced by ADP, collagen and epinephrine ...

Effects of higenamine on isolated heart adrenoceptor of rabbit.

Archives internationales de pharmacodynamie et de therapie, 1984
In the present study, effects of higenamine on various mechanical parameters of rabbit left atria as influenced by propranolol were investigated and compared to those of epinephrine. The following results are obtained: Higenamine, in a dose-dependent manner, increased the rate of tension development and shortened both the time to peak tension and the ...

[Effects of higenamine on the cardio-circulatory system].

Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica, 2005
Higenamine (HG) is a potent cardioactive benzylisoquinoline alkaloid isolated from Aconiti tuber which has long been used as a cardiotonic in traditional Chinese medicine. HG exerts various effects on the cardio-circulatory system inotropic and chronotropic in isolated rat atria. It also relaxes isolated rat aorta.
