Perturbative spacetimes from Yang-Mills theory

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
The double copy relates scattering amplitudes in gauge and gravity theories. In this paper, we expand the scope of the double copy to construct spacetime metrics through a systematic perturbative expansion.

Signatures of Higgs dilaton and critical Higgs inflation [PDF]

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2018
We test the Higgs dilaton inflation model (HDM) using the latest cosmological datasets, including the cosmic microwave background temperature, polarization and lensing data from thePlancksatellite (2015), the BICEP and Keck Array experiments, the type Ia supernovae from the JLA catalogue, the baryon acoustic oscillations from CMASS, LOWZ and 6dF, the ...

Biodiversity conservation through land sparing or sharing: A review

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
The expansion and intensification of agriculture to meet global food demands presents a major challenge for biodiversity conservation, and the land sharing–land sparing (LSLS) framework has been proposed as a way to balance agricultural production with biodiversity conservation.

Evidence for the Higgs boson decay to a bottom quark–antiquark pair

open access: yes, 2018
A search for the standard model (SM) Higgs boson (H) decaying to bb when produced in association with an electroweak vector boson is reported for the following processes: Z(νν)H, W(μν)H, W(eν)H, Z(μμ)H, and Z(ee)H. The search is performed in data samples

Higgs-sector solitons

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1995
We establish the existence of static, classically-stable, winding solitons in renormalizable three-dimensional gauge models, with topologically trivial target space and vacuum manifold. They are prototypes for possible analogous particle-like excitations in the higgs sector of the standard electroweak theory.

Women in business: Gender and commercial space in nineteenth‐century Glasgow

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Focusing on women entrepreneurs in a large British city, we examine how women's commercially listed businesses populated that city. Using commercial property rental records, our study allows us to understand sectoral variation and the distribution of businesses across the city and to assess both the absolute and relative contribution of women ...

HIGGS PHYSICS AND SUPERSYMMETRY [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 2012
A brief overview of Higgs physics and of supersymmetry is given. The central theme of the overview is to explore the implications of the recent discovery of a Higgs-like particle regarding the prospects for the discovery of supersymmetry assuming that it is indeed the spin-0 CP even boson that enters in the spontaneous breaking of the electroweak ...

‘Elbow grease and yellow soap’: Housework time in working‐class households in late‐nineteenth and early twentieth‐century Britain

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Housework is central to feminist calls for recognition of women's work, economic histories explaining the sexual division of labour, and claims regarding the progressive role of scientific knowledge. Yet little is known about the time it actually took. We address this lacuna.

A geography of access to justice: mapping social welfare legal aid need and provision in England and Wales

open access: yesJournal of Law and Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Our research combined statistical data, interviews, and geographic information system (GIS) tools to map social welfare legal aid ‘deserts’ in England and Wales. This novel mixed methodology enabled us to explore the spatiality of unmet legal aid need.

A Narrative Review of Candidate Biomarkers of Total Fruit and Vegetable Intake

open access: yesNutrition Bulletin, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While an abundance of cohort studies has suggested that greater consumption of fruits and vegetables (FVs) is associated with reduced risk of chronic diseases, current self‐report based dietary assessment tools are susceptible to biases that can reduce their accuracy in estimating dietary intakes, and consequently, the risk estimates obtained ...
