Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

A cost-effective eutectic high entropy alloy with an excellent strength–ductility combination designed by VEC criterion

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
Due to the excellent combination of strength and ductility, eutectic high entropy alloys (EHEAs) are of great interests to the researchers. Here, a cobalt free cost-effective eutectic high entropy alloy was designed by VEC criterion.

Magnesium Containing High Entropy Alloys

open access: yes, 2022
High Entropy alloys (HEAs) or Complex Concentrated Alloys (CCAs) or Multi-Principal Element Alloys (MPEAs) is a matter of interest to material scientists for the last two decades due to the excellent mechanical properties, oxidation and corrosion resistant behaviors. One of the major drawbacks of HEAs is their high density.

Superconductivity in a new hexagonal high entropy alloy

open access: yes, 2019
High entropy alloys (HEAs) are the new class of materials with an attractive combination of tunable mechanical and physicochemical properties. They crystallize mainly in cubic structures, however, for practical applications, HEAs with hexagonal close ...

Microstructure and mechanical properties of sintered and heat-treated HfNbTaTiZr high entropy alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
High entropy alloys (HEAs) have attracted researchers' interest in recent years. The aim of this work was to prepare the HfNbTaTiZr high entropy alloy via the powder metallurgy process and characterize its properties.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.

Microstructure Dependence of Magnetic Properties for Al1.5Fe3Co3Cr1 Multi-Principal-Element Alloy

open access: yesMetals
This study focuses on the microstructures and soft-magnetic properties of the Al1.5Fe3Co3Cr1 multi-principal-element alloy (MPEA) in different states. The MPEA was prepared using arc melting and suction-casting, followed by various heat treatments.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Preparation of Tunable Cu−Ag Nanostructures by Electrodeposition in a Deep Eutectic Solvent

open access: yesChemElectroChem
The green transition requires new, clean, inexpensive, and sustainable strategies to prepare controllable bimetallic and multimetallic nanostructures. Cu−Ag nanostructures, for example, are promising bimetallic catalysts for different electrocatalytic ...
