High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs)

open access: yesMetals, 2018
High-entropy alloys (HEAs) [1,2] loosely refer to multi-principal-element solid solution alloys due to their high configurational entropy, in contrast to traditional alloys, which focus on the edge or corner of phase diagrams with one principal component[

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Universal scaling in BCS superconductivity in three dimensions in non-$s$ waves

open access: yes, 1997
The solutions of a renormalized BCS equation are studied in three space dimensions in $s$, $p$ and $d$ waves for finite-range separable potentials in the weak to medium coupling region.

Effect of Dy substitution in the giant magnetocaloric properties of HoB$_{2}$

open access: yes, 2020
Recently, a massive magnetocaloric effect near the liquefaction temperature of hydrogen has been reported in the ferromagnetic material HoB$_{2}$. Here we investigate the effects of Dy substitution in the magnetocaloric properties of Ho$_{1-x}$Dy$_{x}$B ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Developing novel high-Si 12 % Cr reduced-activation ferritic/martensitic cladding alloys via the cluster-formula approach and CALPHAD method

open access: yesMaterials & Design
The corrosion-resistance in lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) coolant at elevated temperatures of traditional reduced-activation ferritic/martensitic (RAFM) steels could not meet the requirements for the application of fuel claddings.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Bosons in high temperature superconductors: an experimental survey

open access: yes, 2011
We review a number of experimental techniques that are beginning to reveal fine details of the bosonic spectrum \alpha^2F(\Omega) that dominates the interaction between the quasiparticles in high temperature superconductors. Angle-resolved photo emission
