Effects of high flow nasal cannula following minimally invasive esophagectomy in ICU patients: A prospective pre-post study

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2023
Background/Purpose: Patients with esophageal cancer who undergo minimally invasive esophagectomy are at risk of postoperative pulmonary complications. High-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy delivers humidified, warmed positive airway pressure but has not

High-flow nasal cannula therapy for adult patients [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2016
High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy has several physiological advantages over traditional oxygen therapy devices, including decreased nasopharyngeal resistance, washing out of the nasopharyngeal dead space, generation of positive pressure in the pharynx, increasing alveolar recruitment in the lungs, humidification of the airways, increased ...

Factors influencing nasal airway pressure and comfort in high-flow nasal cannula oxygen therapy: a volunteer study

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2023
Background High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy is essentially a constant-flow, noninvasive respiratory support system similar to a noninvasive ventilator operating in constant-flow mode.

Population Pharmacokinetics and Detection Times of Betamethasone After Intravenous, Intramuscular, and Intranasal Jet Administration of Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate in Horses

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, EarlyView.
Betamethasone concentrations in 20 horses from Japan and Germany following IV, IM, and INJ administration of betamethasone phosphate were analyzed using population pharmacokinetic modeling. For IV administration of 0.04 mg/kg q24 h, IPC and IUC were 0.012 and 0.31 ng/mL, respectively; the IUC approximated the IFHA urine ISL (0.20 ng/mL).

Nasal high flow oxygen in acute respiratory failure

open access: yesPulmonology, 2021
Thermo-humidified nasal high flow (NHF) oxygen therapy is increasingly used in the management of respiratory failure. This therapy has recently gained attention as an alternative non-invasive respiratory support in several clinical scenarios, including ...

Revisiting the concept that interictal implies asymptomatic: Pulse wave amplitude drops uncover autonomic responses during generalized paroxysmal fast activities

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Interictal electroencephalographic (EEG) activities are generally considered asymptomatic. Pulse wave amplitude drop (PWAD) is a marker of autonomic nervous system (ANS) reactivity linked to cardiovascular risk. Generalized paroxysmal fast activity (GPFA) is a major EEG pattern in different epileptic conditions.
