Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Single photon kilohertz frame rate imaging of neural activity

open access: yes, 2022
Establishing the biological basis of cognition and its disorders will require high precision spatiotemporal measurements of neural activity. Recently developed genetically encoded voltage indicators (GEVIs) report both spiking and subthreshold activity ...

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

High frame rate velocity-coded speckle imaging platform for coherent blood flow visualization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Non-invasive imaging of blood flow at over 100 fps (i.e. beyond video display range) is known to be of clinical interest given that such a high frame rate is essential for coherent visualization of complex hemodynamic events like flow turbulence.

Scanning MEMS Mirror for High Definition and High Frame Rate Lissajous Patterns

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
Scanning MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) mirrors are attractive given their potential use in a diverse array of laser scanning display and imaging applications. Here we report on an electrostatic MEMS mirror for high definition and high frame rate

Effect of Clutter Filter in High-Frame-Rate Ultrasonic Backscatter Coefficient Analysis

open access: yesSensors, 2023
High-frame-rate imaging with a clutter filter can clearly visualize blood flow signals and provide more efficient discrimination with tissue signals. In vitro studies using clutter-less phantom and high-frequency ultrasound suggested a possibility of ...

High frame rate synthetic aperture duplex imaging [PDF]

open access: yes2013 IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS), 2013
Conventional color flow images are limited in velocity range and can either show the high velocities in systole or be optimized for the lower diastolic velocities. The full dynamics of the flow is, thus, hard to visualize. The dynamic range can be significantly increased by employing synthetic aperture flow imaging as demonstrated in this paper ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

A practical guide for model-based reconstruction in optoacoustic imaging

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
Optoacoustic (OA, photoacoustic) imaging capitalizes on the low scattering of ultrasound within biological tissues to provide optical absorption-based contrast with high resolution at depths not reachable with optical microscopy.

Ligand‐dependent transcriptional heterogeneity in cell cycle gene expression delays G1/S entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
EGF and HRG induce distinct G1/S progression programs in ErbB2‐amplified BT474 breast cancer cells. Despite activating the potent ErbB2–ErbB3 heterodimer, HRG does not accelerate cell‐cycle entry. Instead, EGF promotes earlier restriction‐point passage via ERK–FOS signaling, whereas HRG activates the AKT–MYC axis, driving transcriptional heterogeneity ...
