Semi-empirical control method of solid wastes of medium and high activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Semi-empirical method has been developed to monitor medium and high level solid radioactive wastes based on direct measurement of wastes radioactivity and nuclide composition in lorry body. The energy range of measurements was from 80 tо 3000 keV.

Tracking of [14C]Polystyrene Nanoplastics in Pregnant Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates [14C]polystyrene nanoplastic ([14C]PS) translocation in late‐stage pregnant mice after intranasal (0.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD12, GD14, and GD16, n = 6) and intravenous administration (1.5 mg of [14C]PS on GD16, n = 6). 14C‐radiolabel allows quantitative tracking of unmodified polystyrene nanoplastics.

Highly Efficient Extraction of 212 Pb/212Bi from the Decay Chain of 232Th‐Based on Anion Exchange in Bromide Medium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work provides an effective strategy for selectively extracting 212Pb and 212Bi from the decay chain of 232Th as well as its mechanism illustration. Using the novel strategy, 2.07 MBq of 212Pb is successfully separated from 232Th and its daughters, which enables the supply of 212Pb/212Bi directly from the abundant natural thorium resource to be ...

Multifunctional Eutectic Mixtures Enable Integrated Recovery of U, Pu, and Sr From Nuclear Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel class of multifunctional eutectic mixtures, crafted from crown ether and organophosphorus molecules, achieves highly efficient, simultaneous recovery of uranium, plutonium, and strontium from nuclear waste. The material operates via a dual “coordination‐encapsulation” mechanism within self‐assembled reverse‐micelle structures, offering a ...

The ability to manage uncertainty for solid radioactive waste characterization in the UK nuclear industry

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
The disposal of radioactive waste within the UK is managed through a comprehensive regulatory framework. This framework requires radioactive waste to be sufficiently well characterized to ensure its disposal is compliant with the regulations and the ...

Challenges and enablers in fluidization technology

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Gas–solid fluidized beds provide excellent heat and mass transfer for high‐throughput operations from coating to catalytic conversion and underpin emerging low‐carbon technologies. Yet industrial reliability, scale‐up, and control lag scientific understanding, particularly as finer, stickier, and more variable feedstocks increasingly challenge
