Algorithmic Design of an FPGA-Based Calculator for Fast Evaluation of Tsunami Wave Danger

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2021
Events of a seismic nature followed by catastrophic floods caused by tsunami waves (the incidence of which has increased in recent decades) have an important impact on the populations of littoral regions.

Reliability-Centric High-Level Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesDesign, Automation and Test in Europe, 2005
Importance of addressing soft errors in both safety critical applications and commercial consumer products is increasing, mainly due to ever shrinking geometries, higher-density circuits, and employment of power-saving techniques such as voltage scaling and component shut-down. As a result, it is becoming necessary to treat reliability as a first-class

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

High-level Synthesis Integrated Verification

open access: yesEngineering, Technology & Applied Science Research, 2015
It is widely known in the engineering community that more than 60% of the IC design project time is spent on verification. For the very complex contemporary chips, this may prove prohibitive for the IC to arrive at the correct time in the market and therefore, valuable sales share may be lost by the developing industry.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

The role and implications of mammalian cellular circadian entrainment

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At their most fundamental level, mammalian circadian rhythms occur inside every individual cell. To tell the correct time, cells must align (or ‘entrain’) their circadian rhythm to the external environment. In this review, we highlight how cells entrain to the major circadian cues of light, feeding and temperature, and the implications this has for our

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...
