High-Pressure Die-Casting: Contradictions and Challenges
JOM, 2015High-pressure die casting (HPDC) is particularly suitable for high production rates and it is applied in several industrial fields; actually, approximately half of the world production of light metal castings is obtained by this technology. An overview of the actual status of HPDC technology is described in the current work, where both critical aspects

Heat Treatment of High-Pressure Die Castings
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2007High-pressure die-cast Al alloys cannot normally be heated at high temperatures due to the presence of pores containing entrapped gases, which lead to the formation of surface blisters. It has been found that blistering can be avoided by using considerably shorter solution-treatment times and lower temperatures.

Gas content in high pressure die castings
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2011This paper presents the results of a quantitative study of the gas level in various types of castings from the high pressure die casting (HPDC) process using a vacuum fusion method. It was found that the major part of the gas was from the air entrapment during cavity filling.

Feeding Mechanisms in High-Pressure Die Castings
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2010This work focuses on understanding the feeding behavior during high-pressure die casting (HPDC). The effects of intensification pressure (IP) and gate thickness on the transport of material through the gate during the latter stages of HPDC were investigated using an AlSi3MgMn alloy. Microstructural characterization of the gate region indicated a marked

Simulation of High Pressure Die Casting Solidification
Materials Science Forum, 2006By the help of simulation software it is possible to follow and predict the high pressure die casting process. In the Department of Foundry Engineering at the University of Miskolc, Hungary we use both Finite Element- and Finite Difference programs for simulation.

Microstructure formation in high pressure die casting
Transactions of the Indian Institute of Metals, 2009In order to optimise the high pressure die casting (HPDC) process, more understanding of microstructure and defect formation is essential. This article gives an overview of the key microstructural features and the mechanisms of microstructure formation in this process.

Microsegregation in High Pressure Die Cast AM70
2016High pressure die casting (HPDC) is the predominant manufacturing method for magnesium alloy automotive components. Cooling rates during HPDC may reach 300°C/s; however, the phase transformation kinetics in this regime are poorly understood. In this study, a description of microsegregation in HPDC AM70 is obtained by electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA)

Plating of Magnesium High Pressure Die Castings
Transactions of the IMF, 1980The use of magnesium alloys, with their exceptional low density, good formability, in particular by pressure die casting, can lead to considerable weight savings in structural parts.

Three dimensional modelling of high pressure die casting
International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 2000The modelling of high pressure die casting using SPH is extended to three dimensions. This increases the complexity of the geometry specification and the visualisation, but not of the simulation me...
