Tracking Dehydration Reactions and Fossil Fluid Flux in Shear Zones Using Garnet Microstructures

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Shear zones act as preferential fluid pathways during prograde and retrograde stages of metamorphism. Nonetheless, we still have limited knowledge of the drainage and permeability of natural settings. The preserved signature of fluid in exhumed rocks provides insights into fluid flow during burial and exhumation.

Seismo-Stratigraphic Architecture of the Campania–Latium Tyrrhenian Margin: New Insights from High-Resolution Sparker Profiles

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
High-resolution single-channel Sparker (1 kJ) profiles have been carried out to reconstruct the seismo-stratigraphic architecture of a sector of the Campania–Latium Tyrrhenian margin (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy).

Geophysical characterisation of the ocean–continent transition at magma-poor rifted margins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Geophysical characterisation of the ocean-continent transition (OCT) at magma-poor riftedmargins has focused primarily on the determination of P wave velocities using wide-angleseismic techniques. Such experiments have shown that the OCT is heterogeneous,

A geophysical investigation of the Roter Kamm impact crater, Namibia

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The Roter Kamm impact crater is located in the southern Namib Desert. The crater has a diameter of 2.5 km and belongs to the category of simple, bowl‐shaped impact craters, with an elevated rim of fractured target rock. The crater's interior is completely buried beneath sediments, preventing extensive surface investigations of the bedrock ...

First AUV and ROV investigation of seismogenic faults in the Alboran Sea (Western Meditarranean) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In May-June 2015 we carried out the SHAKE cruise on board the RV “Sarmiento de Gamboa” the first in situ investigation using state-of-the-art underwater vehicles, the AUVs “AsterX” and “IdefX” (IFREMER, France) and the ROV “Max Rover” (HCMR, Greece ...

Confirmation of the impact origin of the Late Ordovician Tvären impact structure (southeast Sweden) and emplacement of impactites in a marine setting

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The Tvären structure in southeastern Sweden has been listed as a confirmed marine‐target impact structure for decades. However, to date, no measurements and/or indexed data of planar deformation features in quartz grains from the structure have been published or any other unequivocal evidence of impact.

Deabsorption Prestack Time Migration Combining Stationary-phase Method in Dip-angle Domain:A Case Study of Seismic Data from the Ganquan Block in the Ordos Basin

open access: yesCT Lilun yu yingyong yanjiu
The Ganquan Loess Plateau Block in the Ordos Basin exhibits promising hydrocarbon exploration potential in its karst reservoirs. However, the seismic imaging quality obtained using conventional methods remains suboptimal due to challenges posed by thick ...

Polymict melt‐bearing breccia dikes in the Morokweng impact structure formed by slip‐induced mechanical mixing of pseudotachylite and cataclasite along large‐displacement impact faults

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract A core drilled through shocked and faulted Archean granitoid gneisses and dolerites in the eroded peak ring of the 70–80 km diameter Morokweng impact structure intersects multiple centimeter‐ to meter‐wide clastic‐matrix breccias containing a polymict clast population of lithic and mineral clasts and altered, millimeter‐ to centimeter ‐size ...

Confirming the impact origin of the São Miguel do Tapuio structure, northeastern Brazil

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The São Miguel do Tapuio structure (SMT) is a remarkable, nearcircular feature of about 21 km diameter, centered at 5°37.6′ S, 41°23.3′ W in Piauí state, northeastern Brazil. The structure is located within the sedimentary strata of the Paleozoic–Mesozoic Parnaíba Basin and predominantly comprises sandstones of the Devonian Pimenteiras and ...

Shallow Structural Deformation Reveals Intraplate Seismicity Triggered by Graben Motion in the South China Littoral Fault Zone

open access: yesRemote Sensing
High-resolution seismic reflection profiles from the offshore segment of the Littoral Fault Zone (LFZ) near Nan’ao Island were analyzed to investigate fault activity and its potential link to the 1918 M7.3 earthquake. The data reveal a ~19 km-wide graben
