Centrifugal compressor design for high-temperature heat pumps

open access: yesApplied Thermal Engineering
Heat pumps are identified as crucial technology for decarbonising the heat production. Especially for large-scale, high-temperature heat pumps, the use of centrifugal compressors has been seen as an attractive technological option, but there are very few detailed studies available discussing the compressor designs with different refrigerants for high ...

Charge‐Induced Morphing Gels for Bioinspired Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel electroactive actuation mechanism that enables the gel material to generate substantial and reversible shape‐changing while preserving topological and isochoric (volumetric) equivalence. The resultant morphing behaviors can mimic the movements of muscle‐driven organelles in nature, including cilia‐like beating and ...

Theoretical and Experimental Investigation on R245fa High-temperature Water Steam Heat Pump System

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2018
High-temperature steam is in great demand for many industrial applications. The electric boilers used to replace traditional boilers in rural areas are not efficient enough to be employed in large-scale steam production.

Research on new cooling and waste heat utilization methods of liquid ring vacuum pump for coal mine gas extraction

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan
The high temperature of gas drainage liquid ring vacuum pump is an important reason for its low operating efficiency and short service life. Based on the wasted power dissipation theory of liquid ring pumps, the heat generation-heat dissipation mechanism

Microsphere Autolithography—A Scalable Approach for Arbitrary Patterning of Dielectric Spheres

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MicroSphere Autolithography (µSAL) enables scalable fabrication of patchy particles with customizable surface motifs. Focusing light through dielectric microspheres creates well defined, tunable patches via a conformal poly(dopamine) photoresist. Nearly arbitrary surface patterns can be achieved, with the resolution set by the index contrast between ...

Dynamic characteristics of a two-phase mechanically pumped cooling loop for avionics

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Given the varying flight conditions and mission requirements that affect aircraft cold sources and heat loads, it is crucial to investigate the dynamic behavior of a two-phase mechanically pumped cooling loop (MPCL) for avionics.

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.
