The mechanical design of a vapor compressor for a heat pump to be used in space [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
A heat pump developed for use in Spacelab as a stand-alone refrigeration unit as well as within a fluid loop system is discussed. It will provide an active thermal control for payloads.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Feasibility Analysis of Industrial High-Temperature Heat Pumps in Greece

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The high-temperature heat pump is a favorable technology for aiding the decarbonization of the industrial sector through its electrification. It can produce useful heat up to the range of 100 °C to 200 °C; however, additional steps are needed to develop ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Research on the characteristics of dual-temperature heat pump based on refrigerant leakage [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hebei University of Science and Technology
In order to meet the demand for dual-temperature heating in production and life, a dual-temperature heat pump system based on refrigerant leakage was proposed. By establishing and verifying the mathematical model and system model of the scroll compressor

A Hybrid Compression-Absorption High Temperature Heat Pump Cycles for Industrial Waste Heat Recovery

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao, 2021
Aimed at the problem that the conventional absorption heat pumps and compression heat pumps cannot take into account the temperature rise and efficiency, this paper proposes the use of a thermally-coupled hybrid compression-absorption heat pump to ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Concrete pavements as a source of heating and cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
There is great potential to use the large open space of pavement structures, equipped with an embedded pipe network, in conjunction with a heat pump, to provide heating and cooling for adjacent buildings, e.g.
