Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Correlating fissure occurrence to rice quality for various drying and tempering treatments [PDF]
When a rice kernel fissures, it can break in subsequent food processing operations and lose its commercial value. Head rice yield (HRY) is a measure of the percent of kernels that remain whole (at least three-fourths of original length) after rice has ...

Rare-Event Sampling: Occupation-Based Performance Measures for Parallel Tempering and Infinite Swapping Monte Carlo Methods [PDF]
In the present paper we identify a rigorous property of a number of tempering-based Monte Carlo sampling methods, including parallel tempering as well as partial and infinite swapping.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Tempering Temperature Influence on 13Cr4Ni0.02C Steel Corrosion Resistance [PDF]
The thermal treatments employed in alloys are essential to obtaining desired microstructures and corrosion resistance properties. In this paper the low carbon martensitic steel 13Cr4Ni0.2C with different tempering temperatures was studied using ...

The effects of drying methods and storage conditions on pea seed (Pisum sativum L.) quality and the relationship between high temperature drying and maize seed (Zea mays L.) stress cracks : this thesis presented in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Applied Science (Agricultural Engineering) in the Institute of Technology and Engineering, Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]
High temperature and high relative humidity adversely affect the quality of seeds, and are features of tropical climate. Seed drying and storage are being used increasingly in developing countries to improve seed storage and quality.

Finding Low-Temperature States with Parallel Tempering, Simulated Annealing and Simple Monte Carlo
Monte Carlo simulation techniques, like simulated annealing and parallel tempering, are often used to evaluate low-temperature properties and find ground states of disordered systems.

Evaluation of the effect of TiC precipitates on the hydrogen trapping capacity of Fe-C-Ti alloys [PDF]
The present work evaluates the hydrogen trapping behavior of different laboratory cast generic Fe-C-Ti martensitic alloys. Titanium carbides were precipitated in the materials by well-designed heat treatments.
