Improving the Performance of Power Transmission via Ultra High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC)

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
To meet people’s increasing demand for power, the power network system is developing. And the concept, essence and an energy interactive network plan of “Smart Grid” is proposed. However, some technical issues concerned in power network system appear. It

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Walrus optimizer-based optimal fractional order PID control for performance enhancement of offshore wind farms

open access: yesScientific Reports
Offshore wind farms (OWFs) play a crucial role in producing renewable energy in modern electrical power systems. However, to ensure that these facilities operate smoothly, they require robust control systems.

Analysis of harmonics in subsea power transmission cables used in VSC-HVDC transmission systems operating under steady-state conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Subsea power cables are a critical component of a voltage-source converter-high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) transmission system in any offshore electrical power scheme.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Ab-initio quantum transport simulation of self-heating in single-layer 2-D materials

open access: yes, 2017
Through advanced quantum mechanical simulations combining electron and phonon transport from first-principles self-heating effects are investigated in n-type transistors with a single-layer MoS2, WS2, and black phosphorus as channel materials.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Students' Understanding of Direct Current Resistive Electrical Circuits

open access: yes, 2003
Research has shown that both high school and university students' reasoning patterns regarding direct current resistive electric circuits often differ from the currently accepted explanations.
