Corona discharge will occur on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines with the increase in voltage level, accompanied by audible noise, radio interference, and other phenomena. Audible noise has a serious negative impact on the lives and health of the residents around transmission lines.

Protection scheme for high‐voltage direct‐current transmission lines based on transient AC current
This study presents a new protection scheme for high‐voltage direct‐current (HVDC) transmission lines which only uses a specific frequency AC current (SFAC) at one of the line terminals during fault transients. The fluctuation characteristic of the root mean square (RMS) of SFAC is analysed under different fault conditions.

Analysis of shielding failure parameters of high voltage direct current transmission lines
Journal of Electrostatics, 2012Abstract This paper studies the influence of different parameters on the shielding failure of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines. A numerical analysis model considering the developing process of the downward lightning leader based on electromagnetic field theory is used to estimate the lateral striking distance to the transmission ...

Electric Field of High Voltage Direct Current Overhead Transmission Lines with Covered Conductors
2021 3rd Asia Energy and Electrical Engineering Symposium (AEEES), 2021High voltage direct current (HVDC) overhead transmission lines produce ion flow and space charge which lead to serious contamination than that of high voltage alternating current (HVAC). Corona and contamination of HVDC may be restrained by covering conductors with insulation layer.

Seed germination is the primary stage of growth in a seed. A wealth of experiments exist in literature to support the existence of correlation between seed germination to the electric and magnetic fields. This becomes more important as researchers have suggested to develop technologies to build ecologically clean and environment-friendly solutions to ...

Effects of a high‐voltage direct‐current transmission line on beef cattle production
Bioelectromagnetics, 1990AbstractTwo herds of beef cattle were maintained beneath a ±500 kV direct‐current transmission line during a 30‐month period, and were compared with two similar herds maintained away from the transmission line. Exposures of animals under the line were five to 30 times greater than those of control animals, depending on the parameter of interest, with ...

For high‐voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems, the transient fault current characteristics are that: if the fault point is over the line, the fault component current measured at both converter stations would be increased and they have the same changing direction.

Analysis of ice disasters on ultra-high-voltage direct-current transmission lines
Natural Hazards, 2016Ice disaster is one of the biggest natural disasters posing great threat to the safe operation of power grid. With the construction and operation of ultra-high-voltage direct-current (UHVDC) Transmission Project, it is urgent to carry out research on ice-coating and ice-melting of large-section current-carrying conductors to provide technical support ...

The basic equations of high‐voltage direct current transmission lines’ ion current field are consisted of electric field Poisson equation, ion current density equation and the current continuity equation, hence, the key to calculating total electric field is to solve the non‐linear differential equations, but the calculation process is very complicated.

IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, 1993
The application of a superconductive transmission line to a high-voltage direct-current transmission system is considered. However, unstable phenomena similar to an AC system are introduced. The authors suggest installing a damper circuit, which consists of an inductor and a resistor in parallel, to prevent such instabilities.
