3D Printing of Highly Dense and Translucent Zirconia Parts for Dental Applications: Effect of Filament Overlapping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study formulated a 5Y‐PSZ zirconia paste for extrusion‐based additive manufacturing via direct ink writing, producing dense ceramic structures for dental applications. A colloidal approach with 47 vol% nanometric powder and tailored additives optimized rheology and printability.

Evanescent-wave and open-air chiral sensing via signal-reversing cavity-enhanced polarimetry

open access: yes, 2014
Sensing chirality is of fundamental importance to many fields, including analytical and biological chemistry, pharmacology, and fundamental physics. Recent developments have extended optical chiral sensing using microwaves, fs pulses, superchiral light ...

Terahertz Chiral Metamaterials Enabling Broadband Polarization Conversion Using Polarization Guiding Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A broadband terahertz polarization rotator consisting of twistingly stacked silicon–air metagratings is designed based on the polarization guiding effect and experimentally shown to achieve 90° linear polarization rotation for both TE and TM incidences.

Two-Layer Polarization-Maintaining Solid-Core Photonic Crystal Fiber

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
In this study, a two-layer polarization-maintaining solid-core photonic crystal fiber (SC-PCF) is proposed. The cladding has two large holes both in the first and second layers for high birefringence and confinement loss reduction, respectively.

Group-Birefringence-Dispersion Measurements for Polarization-Maintaining Fibers Using a Kerr Phase-Interrogator

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
A method which utilizes a Kerr phase-interrogator to measure the group birefringence dispersion (GBD) of a polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) is systematically studied in this paper.

Probing vacuum birefringence by phase-contrast Fourier imaging under fields of high-intensity lasers

open access: yes, 2011
In vacuum high-intensity lasers can cause photon-photon interaction via the process of virtual vacuum polarization which may be measured by the phase velocity shift of photons across intense fields.

A new structure of photonic crystal fiber with high sensitivity, high nonlinearity, high birefringence and low confinement loss for liquid analyte sensing applications

open access: yes, 2017
This paper proposes the design and optimization of microstructure optical fiber for liquid sensing applications. A number of propagation characteristics have been compared between two formations of hexagonal cladding of our proposed PCF structure.

Wideband and continuously-tunable fractional photonic Hilbert transformer based on a single high-birefringence planar Bragg grating.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2018
We propose and experimentally demonstrate wideband and continuously tunable fractional-order photonic Hilbert transformers (FrHT). These are realized by a single apodized planar Bragg grating within a high-birefringence planar substrate.

Phototunable Polarization Volume Gratings Driven by Chiral Hydrazone Switches

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral hydrazone photoswitches incorporated into polarization volume gratings enable light‐driven, reversible modulation of optical properties. UV and blue light irradiation reversibly alter the hydrazone isomer ratio, leading to tunable diffraction efficiency and spectral response across the visible spectrum.

Molecular Appendix Adjusted Architectural Propagations of Red‐Light Controlled Macroscopic Photoactuating Performances

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic chloroazobenzenes, bearing different amino acids as end groups alanine, phenylalanine, and valine, exhibit excellent photoisomerizations. Varying structures of three amino acid groups participate in supramolecular formations and therefore photoinduced morphological transformations via adjusting intermolecular interactions. These interaction
