Comparison of the Coding Efficiency of Video Coding Standards—Including High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology, 2012
The compression capability of several generations of video coding standards is compared by means of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and subjective testing results. A unified approach is applied to the analysis of designs, including H.262/MPEG-2 Video, H.263, MPEG-4 Visual, H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC), and High Efficiency Video Coding ...

3D High-Efficiency Video Coding for Multi-View Video and Depth Data

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2013
This paper describes an extension of the high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standard for coding of multi-view video and depth data. In addition to the known concept of disparity-compensated prediction, inter-view motion parameter, and inter-view residual prediction for coding of the dependent video views are developed and integrated.

Scalable video coding based on high efficiency video coding (HEVC)

Proceedings of 2011 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing, 2011
In this paper, we propose two structures for scalable video coding (SVC) based on HEVC. Several inter-layer prediction mechanisms are introduced to improve coding efficiency of the proposed HEVC-based SVC. The proposed inter-layer predictions are developed on single-loop and multi-loop decoding structures.

High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC)

2013
HEVC the latest standard is presented. Comparison with H.264/AVC ( Chap. 4) is cited. The focus is on overview of HEVC rather than a detailed description of tools and techniques that constitute the encoder. A plethora of projects listed at the end challenges the implementation and futher research related to HEVC.

High efficiency video coding

2016 Signal Processing: Algorithms, Architectures, Arrangements, and Applications (SPA), 2016
In the family of video coding standards, HEVC has the promise and potential to replace/supplement all the existing standards (MPEG and H.26x series including H.264/AVC). While the complexity of the HEVC encoder is several times that of the H.264/AVC, the decoder complexity is within the range of the latter.

Improving Intra Prediction in High-Efficiency Video Coding

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2016
Intra prediction is an important tool in intra-frame video coding to reduce the spatial redundancy. In current coding standard H.265/high-efficiency video coding (HEVC), a copying-based method based on the boundary (or interpolated boundary) reference pixels is used to predict each pixel in the coding block to remove the spatial redundancy.

Short Distance Intra Coding Scheme for High Efficiency Video Coding

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2013
This paper proposes a new intra coding scheme, known as short distance intra prediction (SDIP), for high efficiency video coding (HEVC) standardization work. The proposed method is based on the quadtree unit structure of HEVC. By splitting a coding unit into nonsquare units for coding and reconstruction, and therefore shortening the distances between ...
