ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Structure and mechanical properties of Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Mn-Ni-Si-V high-entropy films obtained by splat-quenching [PDF]
The multicomponent films of Al-Co-Cr-Fe-Mn-Ni-Si-V high-entropy alloys obtained by splat-quenching from melt were investigated. Phase formation criteria for high-entropy alloys were considered. The films have a structure with body-centered cubic lattice.

The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Local Chemical Environments and the Phonon Partial Densities of States of 57Fe in 57Fe3Al [PDF]
Inelastic nuclear resonant scattering spectra were measured on alloys of Fe3Al that were chemically disordered, partially ordered, and D03 ordered. The features in the phonon partial density of states of 57Fe were found to change systematically with ...

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Magneto-elastic coupling and competing entropy changes in substituted CoMnSi metamagnets
We use neutron diffraction, magnetometry and low temperature heat capacity to probe giant magneto-elastic coupling in CoMnSi-based antiferromagnets and to establish the origin of the entropy change that occurs at the metamagnetic transition in such ...

Giant reversible barocaloric response of (MnNiSi)(1-x)(FeCoGe)(x) (x=0.39, 0.40, 0.41) [PDF]
MnNiSi-based alloys and isostructural systems have traditionally demonstrated impressive magnetocaloric properties near room temperature associated with a highly tunable first-order magnetostructural transition that involves large latent heat.

Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...
