Advancing SafeWax, A Bio‐Inspired Superhydrophobic Coating, Toward Sustainable and Climate‐Resilient Crop Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study advances SafeWax, a bio‐inspired, fatty‐acids‐based superhydrophobic coating, by identifying an agriculturally compliant solvent and revealing how solvent‐controlled Fatty acid crystallization governs the coating's microscopic structure and performance.

Preferential Interfacial Engineering of Hydrogels via Interdigitated Nanoparticle Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Robust surface functionalization of hydrogel surfaces is performed via interdigitated metal nanoparticle assembly, inducing strong affinity with the hydrogel matrix. The partially exposed nanoparticle domains act as interfacial nanobridges that mediate both chemical and physical bonding with diverse materials, including small molecules, fluorous ...

Multistage, Self‐Sensing Artificial Muscles With Coordination From Liquid Crystal Elastomer‐Graphene Composite Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by skeletal muscles’ precision and endurance, CoilLCE integrates a self‐sensing liquid crystal elastomer/graphene artificial muscle with an embedded Joule‐heating copper coil, enabling closed‐loop multistage actuation with programmable intermediate states (strain accuracy of 2%), and antagonistic coordination (32% total strain). These features

Thermoresponsive Liquid Crystalline Polymer Coatings Programmed by Field‐Induced Topological Defects for Tunable Optical and Topographical Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Resonant standing waves generate large‐area lattices of liquid‐crystal topological defects that are permanently encoded into polymer coatings by photopolymerization. The preserved director architecture produces thermally reconfigurable surface topographies while maintaining programmable optical functionality, demonstrating a scalable strategy for ...

Comparative Performance and Partial Load Cycling of Sodium‐Metal Chloride Battery Modules With Mixed‐Metal Fe,Zn and Ni,Fe Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sustainable Na‐(Fe,Zn)Cl2 battery modules deliver discharge energies comparable to state‐of‐the‐art Na‐(Ni,Fe)Cl2 batteries through high active‐material utilization, although with lower power capability. Advanced electrochemical characterization reveals a distinct reaction mechanism and low resistance during Fe dechlorination.

Analysing high frame-rate camera tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
High frame-rate offers benefits of robust and accurate camera tracking for rapid motion. However, the benefits are generally understated arguing that it is not possible to operate on high frame-rates due to stringent processing budgets and that even today 10- 60Hz is treated as a standard real-time frame-rate range. How exactly does the choice of a given

Adaptive down-sampling of frame-rate for high frame-rate video

2009 Picture Coding Symposium, 2009
Over the past decade, video acquisition rates, which had been 24 Hz (cinema), 30–60 Hz (webcam) or 50–60 Hz (SD/HDcam), has broken through to reach 1000 Hz. In order to display these high frame-rate video signals on current display devices in real time, they must be down-sampled first.

Live high-frame-rate echocardiography

IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control, 2015
We describe an advanced real-time high-speed echocardiographic system with live display while scanning. Images are acquired at rates up to 1000 per second for adult cardiac applications and are stored in computer memory. Images may be played back in slow motion or frame by frame to analyze cardiac motion at the millisecond time scale.

Tracking in High-Frame-Rate Imaging

Ultrasonic Imaging, 2010
Speckle tracking has been used for motion estimation in ultrasound imaging. Unlike conventional Doppler techniques, which are angle-dependent, speckle tracking can be utilized to estimate velocity vectors. However, the accuracy of speckle-tracking methods is limited by speckle decorrelation, which is related to the displacement between two consecutive ...
