High heat flux single phase heat exchanger

5th Joint Thermophysics and Heat Transfer Conference, 1990
A heat exchanger (HX)(120) utilizing a working fluid and having a high heat flux transfer capacity. The HX comprises a core (130) having a heat transfer surface (128), a lenght and a width. Inlet manifolds (140) and outlet manifolds (142) located alternatingly across the width of the core extend the length of the core.

High heat flux experiments at JAERI

IEEE Thirteenth Symposium on Fusion Engineering, 2003
Recent R&D results on high-heat flux components are presented, including construction of a new test stand. The test stand can extract an electron beam of 4.1 at 100 keV. E-folding divergence of the beam is 1.7 mrad, and the latest beam performance is also described. At the original test stand, which can produce hydrogen-ion beams of 50 A at 100 keV for

High-Heat-Flux Effects in Wire Heat Gages

Journal of the Aerospace Sciences, 1961
buckling criterion is established and, furthermore, a simple for mula for buckling criterion with reasonable accuracy for engi neering purposes is obtained. Special attention is paid to exactly satisfying the boundary conditions, and the solution thus obtained is compared with that of Klosner and Forray.1 This paper is a brief report on reference 2 ...

Heat Transfer in Thin Fibrous Materials Under High Heat Flux

Fire Technology, 1999
A heat-transfer model has been developed for two common, inherently flame-resistant fabrics, Nomex® IIIA and Kevlar®/PBI, when subjected to the high heat fluxes used in bench top tests, such as the thermal protective performance (TPP) test, ASTM D 4108. The apparent heat capacity method was used to model thermochemical reactions in these materials with

An experimental study of critical heat flux in very high heat flux subcooled boiling

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 1994
Abstract An experimental study of forced convective subcooled boiling heat transfer to water was performed at heat fluxes that ranged beyond 10 8 W m −2 . One of the objectives of this study was to obtain predictive ability for the critical heat flux (CHF) at high heat fluxes.

High-Heat-Flux Heat Removal Using A Porous-Micro-Channel

The Proceedings of the National Symposium on Power and Energy Systems, 2016
To enable high-heat-flux heat removal from the heated surface, the performance of the method using a porous-micro-channel (a small channel containing a porous metal plate) as the flow channel of coolant was investigated experimentally. The main experimental parameters were the channel size, mass flux and liquid subcooling.

Structures for handling high heat fluxes

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1990
Abstract The divertor is reconized as one of the main performance limiting components for ITER. This paper reviews the critical issues for structures that are designed to withstand heat fluxes > 5 MW/m2. High velocity, sub-cooled water with twisted tape inserts for enhanced heat transfer provides a critical heat flux limit of 40–60 MW/m2 ...

Wendelstein 7-X high heat flux components

2013 IEEE 25th Symposium on Fusion Engineering (SOFE), 2013
The actively water-cooled In-Vessel Components (IVCs) of the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X consist of the divertor, the first wall protection components, the port liners, each designed for different loading conditions, and the associated pipework, the control coils, the cryo-pump system, the Glow discharge electrodes, and a set of diagnostics.

High Heat Flux Cooling by Microbubble Emission Boiling

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2002
Abstract:In subcooled flow boiling of water in a horizontal rectangular channel, microbubble emission boiling occurred at higher subcooling of liquid in transition boiling, and the heat flux increased more than the critical heat flux. The maximum heat flux reached 10 MW/m2for a channel with 12 mm × 14mm cross‐section at 40K liquid subcooling and 0.5 m ...
