Recess Design and Dynamic Control of an Active Compensating Hydrostatic Bearing
This paper describes the optimum design of recess shape for the proposed hydrostatic bearing, and dynamic control of oil film thickness for an active compensating hydrostatic bearing by using a servo valve and a proposed controller.

Thermomechanics of Picoliter Liquids Encapsulated in Metal Microarchitectures
Picoliter‐scale water is encapsulated inside hollow copper microcylinders through a single‐step localized electrodeposition process. Mechanical testing at room and cryogenic temperatures reveals that incompressible liquid and load‐bearing microscale ice enhance the strength and deformation behavior of the composite structure.

High-hydrostatic pressure is an alternative perturbation method that can be used to destabilize globular proteins. Generally perfectly reversible, pressure exerts local effects on regions or domains of a protein containing internal voids, contrary to ...

Probing cluster dynamics in RXCJ1504.1-0248 via radial and two-dimensional gas and galaxy properties
We studied one of the most X-ray luminous cluster of galaxies in the REFLEX survey, RXC J1504.1-0248 (hereafter R1504; z=0.2153), using XMM-Newton X-ray imaging spectroscopy, VLT/VIMOS optical spectroscopy, and WFI optical imaging. The mass distributions

Asymmetry of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in BaTiO3
Phase transitions are typically assumed to behave identically in forward and reverse. This work shows that in the ferroelectric material barium titanate this is not true: heating drives an abrupt, first‐order jump, while cooling gives a smooth, continuous change.

High-pressure study of substrate material ScAlMgO4
We report on the structural properties of ScAlMgO4 studied under quasi-hydrostatic pressure using synchrotron high-pressure x-ray diffraction up to 40 GPa. We also report on single-crystal studies of ScAlMgO4 performed at 300 K and 100 K.

Emergent Freestanding Complex Oxide Membranes for Multifunctional Applications
This review surveys freestanding oxide membranes and covers fabrication and three pathways for studies and devices: strain‐free and strained membranes, and van der Waals‐integrated heterostructures. We show how coupled oxide responses map onto these routes and cross‐couple to expand behaviors.

A low-frequency anechoic coating under high hydrostatic pressure by pressure balancing strategy
It has always been a challenge to develop low-frequency anechoic coatings under high hydrostatic pressure. Based on active pressure balancing strategy (APBS), the airbag embedding in Helmholtz resonator model is proposed to achieve low-frequency and ...
