Physical parameters of the high-mass X-ray binary 4U1700-37 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present the results of a detailed non-LTE analysis of the ultraviolet and optical spectrum of the O6.5 Iaf + star HD 153919 - the mass donor in the high-mass X-ray binary 4U1700-37.

Phase-resolved spectroscopic analysis of the eclipsing black hole X-ray binary M33 X-7: System properties, accretion, and evolution [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2022
M33 X-7 is the only known eclipsing black hole high mass X-ray binary. The system is reported to contain a very massive O supergiant donor and a massive black hole in a short orbit.

A TESS search for donor-star pulsations in high-mass X-ray binaries

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2022
ABSTRACT Ground-based optical photometry of the counterparts of high-mass X-ray binaries (HMXBs) has revealed the presence of periodic modulations on time-scales of ∼0.3–0.5 d. More recent space-based observations (CoRoT and TESS) of OB and Be stars have shown that pulsations caused by p and g modes are common in early-type stars.

CI Camelopardalis: The first sgB[e]-high mass X-ray binary twenty years on: A supernova imposter in our own Galaxy? [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2018
Context. The Galactic supergiant B[e] star CI Camelopardalis (CI Cam) was the first sgB[e] star detected during an X-ray outburst. The star brightened to ∼2 Crab in the X-ray regime (∼5 × 10−8 ergs cm−2 s−1 in the 2–25 keV range) within hours before ...

The evolution and masses of the neutron star and donor star in the high mass X-ray binary OAO 1657−415★ [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2012
We report near-infrared radial velocity measurements of the recently identified donor star in the high mass X-ray binary system OAO 1657-415 obtained in the H band using ISAAC on the VLT. Cross-correlation methods were employed to construct a radial velocity curve with a semi-amplitude of $22.1 \pm 3.5$ km s$^{-1}$.

The masses of the neutron and donor star in the high-mass X-ray binary IGR J18027-2016 [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2011
We report near-infrared observations of the supergiant donor to the eclipsing high mass X-ray binary pulsar IGR J18027-2016. We aim to determine its spectral type and measure its radial velocity curve and hence determine the stellar masses of the components.

The clumpy absorber in the high-mass X-ray binary Vela X-1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Bright and eclipsing, the high-mass X-ray binary Vela X-1 offers a unique opportunity to study accretion onto a neutron star from clumpy winds of O/B stars and to disentangle the complex accretion geometry of these systems.

Black hole high mass X-ray binary microquasars at cosmic dawn [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2018
Theoretical models and observations suggest that primordial Stellar Black Holes (Pop-III-BHs) were prolifically formed in HMXBs, which are powerful relativistic jet sources of synchrotron radiation called Microquasars (MQs).

A striking confluence between theory and observations of high-mass X-ray binary pulsars [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2017
We analyze the most powerful X-ray outbursts from neutron stars in eleven Magellanic high-mass X-ray binaries and three pulsating ultraluminous X-ray sources.
