High-Performance Throughput Computing

IEEE Micro, 2005
CMT processors offer a way to significantly improve the performance of computer systems. The return on investment for multithreading is among the highest in computer microarchitectural techniques. If you design a core from scratch to support multithreading, gains as high as 3/spl times/ are possible for just a 20 percent increase in area.

Productivity in High-Performance Computing

2008
Abstract Productivity is an emerging measure of merit for high-performance computing. While pervasive in application, conventional metrics such as flops fail to reflect the complex interrelationships of diverse factors that determine the overall effectiveness of the use of a computing system.

High-performance computing — an overview

Computer Physics Communications, 1996
Abstract An overview of high-performance computing (HPC) is given. Different types of computer architectures used in HPC are discussed: vector supercomputers, high-performance RISC processors, various parallel computers like symmetric multiprocessors, workstation clusters, massively parallel processors.

Security in High Performance Computing

2010
This paper proposes a solution for applying security to high performance computing systems (HPCS). Providing security in high performance computing is a challenging task. Internet, operating systems and distributed environments currently suffer from poor security support and cannot resist common attacks.

Future high performance computers

Proceedings of the 2nd international conference on Supercomputing - ICS '88, 1988
Many, new high performance computers for supercomputing, and real time application are emerging from DARPA's Strategic Computing Initiative. Also, traditional companies and start-ups are rallying to build new, parallel computers. The Technology is based on parallelism and gains in VLSI, and packaging.Power available from a single computer due to ...

Productivity in High Performance Computing

The International Journal of High Performance Computing Applications, 2004
HPC (high performance computing) has been a popular acronym for decades, and has been applied to many types of architectures, software and applications. The “P” has recently been overloaded to mean both performance and productivity. We present a survey of today’s performance and productivity situation relative to the constituent HPC hardware and ...

Autotuning for high performance computing

Proceedings of the fourth workshop on High performance computational finance, 2011
Program performance depends not only on the algorithms and data structures implemented in the program but also on coding parameters. These parameters include frequency and size of messages, shape of loop tiles, and minimum number of iterations required for parallel execution of a loop.
