Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

An improved YOLOv9-based method for identifying insulator temperature anomalies

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Applied Science
Abnormal heating of transmission-line insulators is often an early indicator of impending faults. Timely and accurate identification of overheated regions in infrared imagery is therefore critical for the safe operation of power grids.

Emission characteristics variation of GaAs0.92Sb0.08/Al0.3Ga0.7As strained multiple quantum wells caused by rapid thermal annealing

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Rapid thermal annealing is an effective way to improve the optical properties of semiconductor materials and devices. In this paper, the emission characteristics of GaAs0.92Sb0.08/Al0.3Ga0.7As multiple quantum wells, which investigated by temperature ...

Harnessing high altitude solar power [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
As an intermediate solution between Glaser's satellite solar power (SSP) and ground-based photovoltaic (PV) panels, this paper examines the collection of solar energy using a high-altitude aerostatic platform.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Multi-physics coupled temperature rise in GIS equipment with built-in optical fiber bundles

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Applied Science
This study presents a novel multiphysics coupling analysis of a 220 kV gas-insulated switchgear(GIS)incorporating an embedded optical fiber bundle, with the key innovation lying in the systematic evaluation of the mutual compatibility between the ...

High-power, high-linearity photodiodes and high-power photodiodes as optoelectronic mixers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Even since fibers are proposed to replace conventional coaxial cables to transmit microwave signals, the applications for analog optical link have been rapidly increasing such as phased array antennas, radio over fiber, photonic analog-to-digital converters, etc.

High-powered gravitational news [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1997
We describe the computation of the Bondi news for gravitational radiation. We have implemented a computer code for this problem. We discuss the theory behind it as well as the results of validation tests. Our approach uses the compactified null cone formalism, with the computational domain extending to future null infinity and with a worldtube as inner

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

High power lasers

open access: yesEncyclopedia
High-power lasers play an important role in modern science, industry, and medicine. A signifi-cant milestone was reached on December 5, 2022, when Inertial Confinement Nuclear Fusion (ICF) achieved scientific breakeven, releasing more energy than the input laser energy. Additionally, Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography (EUVL) has enabled the development of
