A 45-year-old male presented with a slowly progressive, painless swelling in his right eye for the past 6 months. He had undergone an open globe injury repair 10 years back and an eventful cataract surgery 5 years back. The presenting visual acuity in the affected eye was perception of light with inaccurate projection of rays. The intraocular pressure

Superconductivity at high pressures
Contemporary Physics, 1969Abstract In this review, recent results of studies of superconductivity at high pressures are discussed. In the last few years there has been significant progress in developing new methods for obtaining pressures up to 300 kbar and the temperature range of experiments has been extended down to 0.1 K. Superconducting modifications of silicon, germanium,

High Pressure and High-Pressure Environments
2021It is well known that there are major environments in which life thrives, freshwater, the sea, and tropical and temperate lands. There are very hot and cold regions where life may not appear to thrive, but nevertheless exists in surprising abundance. This book is about the little known high-pressure environments and the life which exists there.

X-ray diffraction experiments have been carried out on germanium in a diamond anvil cell to 26 GPa. The pressure at the transition to the metallic phase (II) has been studied in different pressurizing media, giving 10.6\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.05 GPa in a quasihydrostatic medium (4:1 methanol:ethanol mixture), 9.8\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.1 ...

A series of full-scale field drilling tests has shown that high-pressure bits operating at pressures of 10,000 to 15,000 psi can drill many formations two to three times faster than can conventional bits. High-pressure drills can effect significant savings where drilling costs are high, such as in deep land wells, in arctic areas, and offshore.

An 8-year-old boy presented with acute visual loss in the right eye and nausea, vomiting, and diplopia. Imaging revealed a right orbital apex mass. Biopsy showed Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), and the patient was diagnosed with isolated orbital LCH causing an orbital apex syndrome. A 12-month cytarabine chemotherapy course was begun, during which

Chemistry involves the study of the reactions and properties of the elements and their compounds. After over two centuries of systematic chemical research, combined with the modern use of spectroscopy and diffraction methods to determine structure and valence states and detailed quantum mechanical investigations of interatomic bonding; it is now ...

High pressure rheology for high pressure lubrication: A review
Journal of Rheology, 1990High pressure lubrication, also called elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) is a branch of tribology which has been considerably developed since 1960. Mechanisms running under this regime are characterized by high contact pressures (≳0.7 GPa) and very high values (up to 4 GPa) are now found.

Microbial inactivation by high-pressure
The Journal of Supercritical Fluids, 2002Abstract High-pressure treatments are receiving a great deal of attention for the inactivation of micro-organisms in foodstuff processing, pressure instead of temperature is used as stabilizing factor. In this context, high hydrostatic pressure treatment is the most studied alternative process, many works reported successful results in inactivating a
