Emplacement and dewatering of the world's largest exposed sand injectite complex

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2012
Sandstone injectites form by up or down‐section flow of a mobilized sand slurry through fractures in overlying rock. They act as reservoirs and high‐permeability conduits through lower permeability rock in hydrocarbon systems.

EMG‐Driven Telemetry and Inference System for Fish: Pose Reconstruction and Flow Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces an electromyography (EMG)‐driven telemetry framework that reconstructs body pose and infers hydrodynamic conditions in freely swimming fish. A custom 16‐channel archival system records intramuscular EMG, enabling deep‐learning models to decode joint kinematics, classify flow regimes, and reveal channel‐efficient sensing strategies.

Regulating on-street parking [PDF]

open access: yes
Consider the choices available to a shopper driving to a city and trying to park downtown. One option, typical to many cities, is to follow the signposts to an off-street parking facility, which is often privately operated.

NIRGB‐GS: Near‐Infrared Assisted Low‐Light Scene Reconstruction and Enhancement via Gaussian Splatting

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article proposes NIRGB‐GS, a multimodal 3DGS variant that enables reliable 3D reconstruction and normal‐light novel‐view synthesis for extremely low‐light scenes by fusing paired near‐infrared and noisy RGB captures. High‐SNR near‐infrared modality and modality‐specific appearance encoding together resolve the issues of unstable pose/geometry ...

Multiseptate Gallbladder in an Asymptomatic Child

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastrointestinal Medicine, 2011
A one-year-old child being investigated for urinary tract infection was diagnosed with a multiseptate gallbladder. The patient remains asymptomatic, and investigations demonstrate no associated anomalies. Forty-three cases, including 13 cases in children

College Students\u27 Attitudes on Neighborhood Integration: From the Classroom to the Community and Back Again [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
I grew up in an all white suburb, well, almost all white. There were two black families that literally lived on the wrong side of the tracks. Two large run-down old houses sat within five feet of the rumbling trains.

System Identification of Robotic Fish Swimming Reveals Roles of Reactive and Resistive Fluid Force in Two Distinct Swimming Gaits

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
System identification and particle image velocimetry reveal how a modular robotic fish changes thrust physics across gaits. A traveling‐wave, fish‐like motion draws thrust from resistive drag, while a resonant standing‐wave motion is driven by reactive pressure.

Yeast heterochromatin stably silences only weak regulatory elements by altering burst duration

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Transcriptional silencing in Saccharomyces cerevisiae involves the generation of a chromatin state that stably represses transcription. Using multiple reporter assays, a diverse set of upstream activating sequence enhancers and core promoters ...

Neighborhood social environments and mental health among youth and adults in public housing

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Neighborhoods influence health in part through social processes. However, little is known about how multiple neighborhood social processes co‐occur, or about within (vs. between) neighborhood variation in social processes and health. This study asked how residents of a large public housing development describe their neighborhood and used ...
