Timings of high voltage circuit-breaker
Electric Power Systems Research, 2008The reliability of an electrical power system is influenced by the operation of circuit-breaker (CB). A good indicator of circuit-breaker condition is its switching time. Based on it some of the critical circuit-breaker irregularities can be detected and removed before they develop to a failure.

High voltage vacuum circuit breakers
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1975A new line of high voltage vacuum power circuit breakers is being developed for 121 kV and above and will use the new vacuum interrupter module presented in a companion paper3. The first ratings in production will be 242 kV with interrupting capabilities of 40,000 amperes, followed by breakers rated 50,000 amperes; both of these will have continuous ...

Interrupters for high-voltage circuit breakers
Electrical Engineering, 1957The demand for higher breaker voltages and interrupting ratings created by today's expanding energy requirements presents numerous design and test problems. A new line of high-power tubular multibreak-type interrupters has been developed, features of which include accessibility, simplicity of replacement, and a design that can be verified by part ...

High-voltage oil circuit breakers
Electrical Engineering, 1950ONLY a few years ago, 3,500,000 kva was the maximum standard rated interrupting capacity for high-voltage circuit breakers, and the interrupting-time ratings were mostly five and eight cycles. This article describes recent developments in interrupting devices that have made available standard circuit breakers for 5,000,000-kva interrupting capacity and

Development of High Voltage Vacuum Circuit Breakers in China
2006 International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum, 2006This paper introduces research work on the development of high-voltage (HV) vacuum circuit breakers (VCBs) in China from its starting point in 1989 to 2006. In this period, a 126-kV two-breaks VCB prototype and a 126-kV single-break VCB prototype were developed. A latest 252-kV single-break interrupter prototype is introduced. Five HV VCBs technologies

Comparison of Synthetic Test Circuits for Ultra-High-Voltage Circuit Breakers
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1996Three synthetic test circuits to verify the interrupting performance of UHV circuit breakers (765kV, 63kA, 50Hz) are compared on aspects of equivalence, operation, required capacitive energy and applicability. The comparisons show that, although each circuit has its own merits, the EPIC circuit appears to be very attractive.

The 150-kv. system operated for some years by the Southern California Edison Company has not made use of automatic operation of circuit breakers. The multiplication of generating stations and connections which accompanied the change to 220-kv. makes desirable the automatic sectionalizing of the line in cases of trouble and, therefore, requires circuit ...

Circuit breakers go high voltage
IEEE Power and Energy Magazine, 2009Over the last 50 years, high-voltage circuit breakers have become more reliable, more efficient, and more compact because the interrupting capability per break has been increased dramatically. These developments have not only produced major savings, but they have also had a massive impact on the layout of substations with respect to space requirements.
