Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

Exterior differentials of higher order and their covariant generalization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2000
We investigate a particular realization of generalized q-differential calculus of exterior forms on a smooth manifold based on the assumption that dN=0 while dk≠0 for k<N. It implies the existence of cyclic commutation relations for the differentials of first order and their generalization for the differentials of higher order. Special attention

From lactation to malignancy: A comparison between healthy and cancerous breast gland at single‐cell resolution reveals new issues for tumorigenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing reveals an opposite role of SLPI in basal tumors based on metastatic spread, along with shared activation of specific regulons in cancer cells and mature luminal lactocytes, as well as downregulation of MALAT1 and NEAT1 in the latter.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

RAD50 missense variants differentially affect the DNA damage response and mitotic progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
RAD50 incorporates into the MRN complex and initiates the DNA damage response. Furthermore, RAD50 promotes mitotic progression. RAD50 missense variants capable of forming an MRN complex supported the DNA damage response and mitotic features to different extents in complementation experiments, indicating these functions are separable and might impact ...

On higher-order differentials of the period map

open access: yesDuke Mathematical Journal, 1993
For a smooth proper morphism \(\pi : {\mathcal X} \to S\) where \(S\) is a small ball in \(\mathbb{C}^s\) centered at 0, one has a period map \(\Phi : S \to {\mathcal D}\) with \({\mathcal D}\) a suitable classifying space of Hodge structures. The image of a tangent vector \(\theta \in T_{S,0}\) under the first derivative \(d \Phi\) at 0 is known to be

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Higher order fractal differential equations

open access: yesModern Physics Letters A
This paper provides a summary of the fractal calculus framework. It presents higher-order homogeneous and nonhomogeneous linear fractal differential equations with [Formula: see text]-order. Solutions for these equations with constant coefficients are obtained through the method of variation of parameters and the method of undetermined coefficients ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
