On the evaluation of higher harmonics in nearly sinusoidal oscillators

International Journal of Circuit Theory and Applications, 1993
AbstractAn approximation method for calculating the periodic oscillations of nearly sinusoidal oscillators is presented which is based upon the classical pertubation method. Both the frequency and the amplitude of the harmonics of the oscillation are calculated to a first approximation by very simple relations which are useful for deriving a design ...

Higher‐harmonic atomic force microscopy

Surface and Interface Analysis, 2006
Abstract To maximize the spatial resolution of atomic force microscopy (AFM), it is helpful to isolate the spurious short‐range components from the plethora of force contributions acting between AFM tips and samples.

Higher Harmonic Generation Microscopy

2005
Higher harmonic-generation, including second harmonic generation and third harmonic generation, leaves no energy deposition to the interacted matters due to its virtual-level transition characteristic, providing a truly non-invasive modality and is ideal for in vivo imaging of live specimens without any preparation.

Higher harmonics in the Josephson effect

Physics Letters A, 1980
Abstract In the low temperature regime where macroscopic flux tunneling allows a SQUID magnetometer to follow the stable thermodynamic free energy without hysteretic dissipation, it is possible to exhibit macroscopic quantum behaviour via higher Josephson harmonic oscillations in the thermal response.

SYNCHRONIZATION OF HIGHER HARMONICS IN COUPLED ORGAN PIPES

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2007
We report results on the synchronization of two organ pipes positioned side by side. Special attention is put on the synchronization of the higher harmonics. As possible explanation, classical theory provides the amplitude death as explanation for the reduction to almost silence of two coupled organ pipes.

Decomposing magnetic fields into their higher harmonics

Proceedings of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1915
When it is necessary to decompose a magnetic field into its higher harmonics the same methods used for analyzing current and voltage waves may be employed. In many cases, however, the usual long mathematical operations can be avoided by representing the field shapes as geometrical figures, such as triangles, rectangles, trapezoids, etc., all of which ...

Scatter at Higher Harmonics

2001
The oscillation of gas bubbles is known to be highly nonlinear for moderate driving pressure amplitudes [87]. “Moderate amplitude” means amplitude between 100 and 500 kPa, amplitudes that occur frequently in diagnostic ultrasound imaging. The nonlinear oscillations cause the bubbles to radiate sound at harmonics of the driving acoustic pressure pulse.

On the higher orders of hyperspherical harmonics

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1983
We suggest a procedure to evaluate matrix elements between hyperspherical harmonics of any order. The method is based on the hyperspherical expansion of a Slater determinant constructed with oscillator wavefunctions. Explicit formulas are given for all matrix elements up to order Lm+2.

Higher Harmonic Rotor Control

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1958
The elimination of the retreating blade stall speed limitation for helicopters by means of an appropriately programmed feathering input is studied for the general case of a rigid flapping blade with hinge constraint (thus making the results applicable to conventional, offset‐hinged or cantilevered rotor blades).

Moiré and higher grating harmonics

Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1975
The conditions for and formation of low-spatial-frequency beat patterns between superposed grid structures are studied. The application of moire techniques for Fourier analysis of incoherently illuminated distributions is demonstrated. The different multiples of the fundamental spatial frequency of a grating are used to form distinguishable moire ...
