Electroweak Decays of Highly Charged Ions [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
In this contribution we review the present status of experimental studies of electroweak decays of highly charged ions. A particular focus will be given on the bound state beta decay measurement of 205Tl.

Hydration of highly charged ions.

open access: yesChem Phys Lett, 2011
Based on a series of ab initio quantum mechanical charge field molecular dynamics (QMCF MD) simulations, the broad spectrum of structural and dynamical properties of hydrates of trivalent and tetravalent ions is presented, ranging from extreme inertness to immediate hydrolysis.

Photoionization of highly charged carbonlike ions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 1992
Close-coupling calculations using the {ital R}-matrix method have been carried out for the photoionization cross sections of carbonlike ions: F{sup 3+}, Ne{sup 4+}, Na{sup 5+}, Mg{sup 6+}, Al{sup 7+}, Si{sup 8+}, S{sup 10+}, Ar{sup 12+}, Ca{sup 14+}, and Fe{sup 20+}, which are of interest in the calculation of plasma opacities.

COLLISIONS OF SLOW HIGHLY CHARGED IONS WITH SURFACES [PDF]

open access: yesPhotonic, Electronic and Atomic Collisions, 2006
Progress in the study of collisions of multiply charged ions with surfaces is reviewed with the help of a few recent examples. They range from fundamental quasi-one electron processes to highly complex ablation and material modification processes. Open questions and possible future directions will be discussed.

Hybrid method for representing ions in implicit solvation calculations

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal, 2021
Fast and accurate calculations of the electrostatic features of highly charged biomolecules such as DNA, RNA, and highly charged proteins are crucial and challenging tasks. Traditional implicit solvent methods calculate the electrostatic features quickly,

Single-ion induced surface modifications on hydrogen-covered Si(001) surfaces—significant difference between slow highly charged and swift heavy ions

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2021
Hydrogen-covered Si(001) surfaces were exposed to swift heavy ions (SHI) and slow highly charged ions (HCI). Using scanning tunneling microscopy as analysis tool, the ion-induced modifications on the surface were resolved on the atomic scale.

Enhancement of Gain Coefficient of Li-Like Ion 3d-4f Soft X-ray Laser Oscillation by a Single Resonator

open access: yesAtoms, 2022
A recombination plasma soft X-ray laser that is associated with Li-like Aluminum ion Al10+ 3d-4f transition (wavelength: 15.47 nm) was investigated to increase the gain coefficient.

Cratering Induced by Slow Highly Charged Ions on Ultrathin PMMA Films

open access: yesAtoms, 2022
Highly charged ions are a well-known tool for the nanostructuring of surfaces. We report on the thickness dependence of nanostructures produced by single 260 keV Xe38+ ions on ultrathin poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films (1 nm to 60 nm) deposited ...
