Highly Nonlinear Solitary Waves for the Assessment of Dental Implant Mobility [PDF]
In this paper we present a noninvasive technique based on the propagation of highly nonlinear solitary waves (HNSWs) to monitor the stability of dental implants. HNSWs are nondispersive mechanical waves that can form and travel in highly nonlinear systems, such as one-dimensional chains of spherical particles.

Actuators for the generation of highly nonlinear solitary waves [PDF]
In this paper we present the design of two actuators for the generation of highly nonlinear solitary waves (HNSWs), which are mechanical waves that can form and travel in highly nonlinear systems. These waves are characterized by a constant spatial wavelength and by a tunable propagation speed, dependent on the wave amplitude. To date, the simplest and

Soliton dynamics and stability in resonant nonlinear Schrödinger systems with cubic quintic effects via enhanced modified extended tanh function method [PDF]
This study investigates solitary wave solutions of the three-dimensional, time-dependent nonlinear Schrödinger equation with cubic–quintic effects and a generalized Kudryashov-type self-phase modulation term.

A Comparative Study on Three Different Transducers for the Measurement of Nonlinear Solitary Waves
In the last decade there has been an increasing interest in the use of highly- and weakly- nonlinear solitary waves in engineering and physics. Nonlinear solitary waves can form and travel in nonlinear systems such as one-dimensional chains of particles,

Interaction of highly nonlinear solitary waves with thin plates
AbstractWe investigate the reflection of highly nonlinear solitary waves in one-dimensional granular crystals interacting with large plates. We observe significant changes in the reflected waves’ properties in terms of wave amplitude and time of flight in association with the intrinsic inelasticity of large plates, which are governed by the plate ...

Typhoon-induced, highly nonlinear internal solitary waves off the east coast of Korea [PDF]
Highly nonlinear internal solitary waves (ISWs) propagating both onshore and offshore were detected in a SAR image taken approximately 19 hours after typhoon MAEMI's passage across the east coast of Korea. Analysis of ocean buoy data suggests that the ISWs were generated by near‐inertial waves in response to typhoon wind.

Chirped localized pulses in a highly nonlinear optical fiber with quintic non-Kerr nonlinearities
We study the existence and propagation properties of chirped localized pulses in a highly nonlinear fiber medium exhibiting self-steepening, self-frequency shift, and quintic non-Kerr nonlinearities.

A Comparative Study on Generation and Propagation of Nonlinear Waves in Shallow Waters
This study is concerned with the generation and propagation of strongly nonlinear waves in shallow water. A numerical wave flume is developed where nonlinear waves of solitary and cnoidal types are generated by use of the Level I Green-Naghdi (GN ...
